Client: First Data Corp

About Client:

First data is a financial institute which deals with Banks, ATM’s, POS machines, Merchants, Debit &

Credit cards etc. My area of involvement is in Debit card transactions. I worked on Switch Development

and some parts of testing part.

Switch acts as a hub between the ATM/POS machines and Banks/Financial institutes. When a transaction

is acquired from an ATM/POS machine then it will come to switch through Processor Interface (PI).

Switch will do the initial validation and forward that transaction to the actual issuer.

Project: Compliances

In First data apart from the new projects and enhancements we have yearly 3

Mandatory compliances. In this compliance we will get the work to support for other Gateways, like

VISA, Master Card, Cirrus, PLUS etc. We will support the changes from those gateways. If any changes

are there in these gateways then STAR gateway should support those changes from our end. In this

compliance we do changes from our end to support their business requirements and continue our business

with them.

We get the bulletins from the other Gateways (VISA, Master card, Cirrus, PLUS etc.), Once we get the

bulletins we prepare the high level designs and low level designs And cross verify it with third parties.

Once it is finalized then we go for coding and while doing testing we used to do the Online testing with

other gateways(like VISA And Cirrus). To get confirmed as the code is working fine, then we go for

Deployment.

Project: Network Enhancements

Worked as a module lead in Network enhancements project. This project has many enhancement changes

with STAR Gateways. In this project we deal with transactions like

• Online bill payment

• Fund transfer from Debit account

• Fund transfer from Credit account

• Electronic Fund Transfer

We used Paragon testing tool to create a transaction and when it comes to switch it will convert the

message format to ISO8586 format. Switch understands this format only. Once switch will do initial

validation and identifies the actual issuer, it will convert back to the original message format and send it

back to issuer.

Project: NYCE / AFFN Reciprocal

In NYCE / AFFN reciprocal project I acted as a Team lead. This project is all about the internal deal

between NYCE and AFFN gateways.

When a NYCE issued card transactions will get generated from an AFFN ATM terminal then there should

not be any charges for this transaction and vise versa.

For this change we added a flag for NYCE and AFFN card transactions if it gets generated from other

NYCE / AFFN ATM terminals. So, when a transaction is initiated from an NYCE/AFFN ATM’s with

respect to the NYCE/AFFN cards then a flag will be raised. So at EOD (Application) where end of the

day settlements are happen and in Billing application there should not any charges for this transaction.

While doing testing for this project we have to take care for 4 downstream applications, so we did a

complete system testing, Regression testing, Integration testing and Online testing with NYCE & AFFN

gateways.

Project: Star Contact Less

Switch is a big and huge application, which interacts with many other applications and Databases, like

Unix database, Mainframes, PAR database and JAVA (Front end), CMA (Card management and

Authorization) EOD, Settlement, Billing etc.

I worked on Star Contactless project as a team member. This project is completely on the STAR

Gateways Contactless transaction. Star Contactless cards are chip based Debit cards which are Swiped in

POS machines. Instead of reading the original card number through Bar code it will read the dynamic

card number from chip on acquirer end, and forward the transaction to Switch. Once it will come to

Switch it will do some initial validation and from switch it will go to Unix box and convert the dynamic

card number to original card and forward back to switch. Now switch will forward that transaction to the

actual issuer for final authorization.

This project interacts with PAR database, CMA card database and UNIX database. So, when we are doing

coding we should be in a sink with other applications. While doing testing also we should maintain this

sink.

Tools:

• Paragon Simulator: This is used for generating a transaction from an ATM or from a POS machine.

I worked on this tool for 8+ years.

• Proficient in using QC and QTP.

• Uni-Center Service Desk: This is a service desk for creating and maintaining an Incident request

(IR) and Change request (CR).

• IBM rational Clear Case and Clear quest tool: We used this tool to raise a new / Modify a defect

and to add / Modify an incident.
