Served as: T eaching Assistant (18 months) w ith the Mechanical Department
following 18 months as tu tor, where I assisted and tutored a group of 50 students in
Mechanical Engineering drawing course using AutoCAD.
Academic P rojects:
Optimal scheduling, to minimize power from external power grid Lean implementation
on Pratt and Whitney 210 Production Engine Assembly Designing lean production
system for IQ Manufacturing Inc. P roduction planning in Electro-Mechanical
manufacturing company A ircraft scheduling using software Arena simulation.
Concurrent planning, design, manufacturing and marketing of I roning board. I shikawa
cause and effect diagram using capture recapture techniques. Construction of University
M all, through project management phases. Study on advanced concepts of quality
i mprovement technics.
E xt ra-Cu r r icular Activities:
D r ivetrain Department Head: Formula SAE, Cochin University of Science and
Technology
Managed a team of three to design, manufacture and maintain race car drive t rain.
Developed vehicle dynamic model to determine the effect of differential.
Performed mechanical and material testing to benchmark existing designs, validate
new designs and determine causes of previous design failures.
Applied tools such as CAD, ANSYS CFD and SAE design standards.
Relevant P roject:
In my Lean Manufacturing project, working in a team of 6, we designed a lean system for
automobile component manufacturing company. We selected the product family based on
80% downstream rule; calculated ‘takt t ime’; ‘current state analysis’ to analyse process
t ime; process ‘Kaizen’ to reduce process t ime. Using MS Office Visio we created the Value
s tream Map. What we attained? Improved production lead time from 76 days to 17 days;
a ttained inventory tu rnover ratio of 2.8 from .03 and reduced number of operators from 15
to 7. Suggestions made: establishing new production line for optimal production.
Relevant Experience:
General Motors India Private Limi ted, I ND IA (2011-2012)
M echanical Assistant Supervisor
In this role, I supervised and provided efficient and economical maintenance and repair
service for automobile service equipment including wheel alignment, car wash, wheel
balancer and hydraulic auto lifter to provide smooth functioning of services.
Actively participated in maintenance repairs, fault finding and monitoring of
equipment. We applied quality standards and followed company specifications for
p roper monitoring and safe utilization.
Applied tactics to ensure maximum operational availabili ty of equipment by
d iagnosing and specifying repair methods.
Optimally allocated jobs, reported break down and fault by preventive
maintenance to avoid wastage in time, cost and resources.
Submit ted routine inspection and monitoring report for management review and
decision making. Applied proficient use of Microsoft Office Word and Excel in
charting and analysing the work f low and communication f low.
Assisted in providing technical support for the operations to meet the Extra
Operational requirements.
I ndian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), I ND IA (2010-2011)
E ngineering I ntern
Conducted research, data charting and have taken part in study of cutting parameters
a ffecting machinability of t i tanium T14 alloy.
Selected, through a formal interview process, to participate in research on
machinability.
Contributed to a team of 4 and individually on analysing parameters including
cutting tool material, cutting speed, spindle speed, depth of cut and feed rate.
Recognized for quick t raining and minimal supervision needs with the
assignment.
Identified factors affecting parameters and studied viable solution to improve
machinability.
Applied AutoCAD and Pro-E in designing T14 alloy metal parts for machining
following the design specifications.
Volunteer Experience:
Served as ‘Design Advisor’ at an electromechanical company, suggesting ways to
i mprove design for ease of manufacturing.
Assisted new students to adapt to the University as Orientation Volunteer.
Participated in City’s School Playground clean-up.
A wards:
Achieved early completion Graduation Bonus Awards, Concordia University.
