Have had 10 projects working simultaneously.
2000 to 2002 -Dickman Grading and Hauling, Inc.
As a Superintendent with Dickman Grading directing job
personnel toward completion of the project was my main
goal. Coordination of deliveries, identifying extra
work required outside our contract, and scheduling
activities with the general contractor were part of
the job. Supervising several projects at a time was
required. As market conditions slowed helped
estimating jobs, doing quantity takeoffs using Agtek,
soliciting quotes for material, and preparing bidding
packages. Projects sizes ranged from $25,000 to
$300,000.
1998 to 1999 - General Contracting Services; Englewood, FL
Working for General Contracting Services as a foreman
was new experience since the company had been in business less
than a year. Completing projects required being
flexible and able to perform a variety of functions
from hands on work to estimating extra work cost for
the owner’s representative. Training a new work force
was very important for the growth of the company.
1997 to 1998 -Gradex, Inc.; Basic Engineering, & The W.J. Sutton Co.
Superintendent/Forman/Estimator -
While employed during this period efficient job
supervision was main goal. While learning a new part
of the construction industry I was able to improve
procedures used by the companies by implementing
methods I had used. Using my knowledge of field work,
assisting with takeoffs and getting quotes for
projects that were being bid helped the owners.
Coordinating delivery of materials to projects and
preparing submittals for projects improved as I was
able to identify potential conflicts. Project sizes
ranged from $2,000 to $5,000,000.
1996 to 1997 - Kankakee Valley Construction; LaPorte, IN
Working with Kankakee Valley Construction as a Project
Superintendent on a bridge replacement project was
unique in the amount of field conflicts and plan
errors that were discovered. Keeping the project on
schedule while these conflicts and errors were
resolved was necessary to keep the project profitable.
Scheduling of subcontractors, material suppliers and
of the workforce to build the project within budget
was achieved. Verifying quantities and all extra work
with the owner was crucial for the success of this
project. Project size was $9,000,000
1989 to 1996 - APAC -GA - MacDougald Division; Atlanta, GA
Started with APAC as an Assistant Superintendent in
the Layout Department. By learning computer programs,
I supplied information for four survey crews working
on several projects concurrently. I was assigned as
Project Engineer on a project in Macon, GA on I-75 in
1992. My duties included cost reports, coordination of
subcontractors, and material suppliers, and
verification of quantities with the DOT. After
completion of that project I work on nine Projects
doing cost reports, invoicing of monthly pay estimates
to owners of projects and supervising crews to
complete Punch List work and Final out projects.
1984 to 1989 - Lunda Construction Co. ; Atlanta, GA
As Party Chief/Field Engineer on I-285 project in
Atlanta, Ga., responsibilities included construction
layout on eight bridges on the project, ordering
materials, processing time sheets and other duties,
kept the project moving along. On completion of this
project, a transfer to project on I-75/I-85 through
Atlanta, a joint venture with two other companies,
allowed me to work as a foremen for 2 years on RE
walls and on bridges. Worked with RE walls to gain
experience so Lunda could self perform in this aspect
of construction.
1979 to 1984 - Jasper Construction Co.
As Party Chief on the I-75 project in Manatee County,
Fl., layout of three bridges and one mile of roadway
sped along construction after errors by previous
surveyors. The I-95 project in Ft. Pierce, Fl.
computations, layout and conflict resolution on
bridges, box culverts, and pipe gave me the Field
Engineering experience. Then I was transferred to
Atlanta, GA at the completion of this project, to work
on I-75 road widening.
1972 to 1979 - Indiana State Highway Comm. (DOT)
I started working for Ind. Highway Comm. during the
summer while attending college. My duties were rodman
on survey crew and inspector on construction
activities. By the time I left, I was Party Chief and
Lead Inspector on projects with increased
responsibility in calculations of quantities and
layout.
