This is where I learned to be a 'class A' Tool & Die Maker. I served an (in-

house) 4 year apprenticeship, becoming a Team Leader in 1984. Duties were

wide and diversified. Building simple blanking dies to 20 station

progressive tooling. Sheet metal prototypes, kick & brake press set-up.

Stamping press set-up and monitoring. Quality control, first piece

inspection. Troubleshooting dies for production. The toolmaker completed

the entire process at Brenner, from squaring up steel, machining, surface

and contour grinding after heat treating, assembly and tryout. Form dies,

fixture building for CNC's, etc.
