EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
General Electric Transportation
ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
- General Electric Transportation electrical integration
team.
o Developed new locomotive schematics on GE projects for
major railroads including Union Pacific, Burlington
Northern, Norfolk Southern and Canadian National using
smart Autocad Electrical.
o Developed locomotive wire lists using the GET Wilmor
package.
o Conducted design reviews on each of these projects.
o Worked with the factory in resolving issues with the
wiring harnesses on each of these projects.
- Achievements - Learned Smart Autocad Electrical, Gained
experience conducting design reviews
Brookville Equipment Corporation
ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
- Lead engineer in the design and commissioning of a 2000
hp. Low emissions prototype locomotive (BMEX259) powered
by a solid state drive.
o Specified and purchased engines, generators, sensors,
switchgear, IGBT inverters and control computer.
o Debugged and demonstrated prototype locomotive on a
nationwide tour of Class I railroads.
- Participated in the design of a fleet of re-manufactured
trolley cars for the Southeast Pennsylvania Transit
Authority (SEPTA) in Philadelphia. Represented Brookville
Equipment Corporation at SEPTA providing field support
including servicing, maintaining and upgrading the re-
manufactured trolley cars.
- Achievements -
o Successfully lead the design of a prototype solid state
drive locomotive resulting in it's sale to the Central
California Traction Co.
o Successfully represented Brookville Equipment at SEPTA
fixing many wiring
problems when the trolleys were delivered in
Philadelphia.
Bombardier Transportation Inc.
SENIOR ENGINEER
- Complete responsibility for the hardware design of the
central computer control system for the Kuala Lumpur,
Rome, Houston, San Francisco, Seattle-Tacoma and Madrid
airport people mover systems.
o Performed the conceptual through final design in co-
operation with the software engineering group.
o Documented all designs using AUTOCAD 2000 in co-
operation with the Computer Aided Design Group.
o Wrote specifications for purchased equipment such as
custom consoles, industrial PC's and fault tolerant
(Stratus) computers.
o Designs included connecting all equipment over various
networks including Ethernet (10Base2, 10Base T and
100Base T) and serial (RS232, RS485 and RS422). Networks
were implemented using both hardwired and fiber optics.
- Communications based automatic train control system.
o Conceptual design of the ATCS vital communications
system.
o Hardware design and documentation for a prototype
communications based train control system. The system
was tested on the Bombardier test track.
- Achievements -
o Successfully designed central control systems linking
industrial computers over various network connections.
Dupont Chemical Corporation
SENIOR ELECTRICAL AND INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEER
- Electrical and Instrumentation project engineering for the
chemical process industry.
o Complete project responsibility for specifying and
purchasing instruments, switchgear and distributed control
systems for medium size projects in chemical plants.
- Achievements -
o Electromechanical design including instrumentation,
switchgear and motor controls in chemical plants.
United States Steel Corp., Research Laboratory
RESEARCH ENGINEER
- Designed and implemented a prototype microcomputer based
pickle line acid monitor and control system resulting in
annual savings of 1.1 million dollars
- Wrote the control program for and designed the interface to
an Allen Bradley programmable controller operating the case
hardener section of an oil well sucker-rod production line.
- Developed hardware and software for an embedded microcomputer-
based solid-state controller on a coal mine shuttle car.
- Developed a prototype computer system to predict roll
separating forces on a reversing type rolling mill
- Evaluated various types of instrumentation including strain
gauges, pyrometers etc. used in steel production.
- Achievements -
o Developed prototype designs connecting computers and
PLC's to instruments and electromechanical devices such
as relays, stepping motors and motor controllers in
steel mills
