Professional Experience
Solar Point Energy Group, Lake Forest, CA-June 2011 to January 2014
Developer of Photovoltaic projects for commercial enterprises
General Manager
Start up, part of founding team, the company raised capital with the
objective of selling, installing and operating/maintaining commercial scale
photovoltaic projects.
Successfully established strategic partnerships to expand sales potential
and provide engineering and installation capability.
Responsible for project management, accounting and financial analysis.
Business is winding down operations
Scheuten Solar USA, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA-February 2010 to May 2011
Subsidiary of Scheuten Solar B.V. based in the Netherlands, Distributed
photovoltaic panels and related equipment
Operations Manager
Member of management team that established company to develop markets and
infrastructure to import and distribute a new photovoltaic panel line and
develop projects for the US market.
Developed distribution channels and established third party warehousing on
both coasts
Provided liaison for accounting and logistics with Dutch and German
associates, managed customs transactions.
Set up ERP (Microsoft Dynamics) system, responsible for financial
reporting.
Parent company pulled out of the US market due to pricing competition.
DRJ Holding, LLC, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA-December 2001 to December 2009
Manufactured commercial environmental control systems, water aeration
systems, Compact Disc master recording substrates General Manager
Managed facility relocation, including facility layout, tenant improvements
(included cleanrooms) and resumption of operations.
Integrated an acquired environmental controls product line into existing
operation, transitioned production control from a manual system to an ERP
system using an Assemble to Order (ATO) production strategy. Established
Standard Costs for all products. Reduced direct and indirect staff numbers,
reducing cost while improving efficiency.
Using Lean methods, led project to review the recording substrate
production process, led to the elimination or modification of several
process steps, resulted in a 30% reduction in cost, improved quality and
higher yields.
Toolex USA, Inc. Irvine, CA-January 1998 to November 2001
Manufacturer of CD mastering equipment and recording substrates. Also
distributed CD/DVD mastering and replication equipment produced in Europe.
Subsidiary of Toolex International B.V. based in the Netherlands. Toolex
USA realized $65 million in annual revenue.
Operations Manager
Managed $2.2 million design/build project for a 45,000 sq. ft. facility.
Included two cleanroom complexes, process piping for: nitrogen, instrument
air, DI water and vacuum. Completed project within budget and on time
Michael Segert
Toolex USA (cont.)
Successfully implemented a clean room based process based on a pilot line
operating in Europe. Product was a nickel substrate produced via plating,
subsequently precision coated with a laser sensitive dye. Modeled process
and integrated it into ERP. Reduced cost and improved product quality, cost
per part reduced by 70% achieving profitability.
Designed a Sales Order/Work Order system for field service to accurately
collect labor and material costs for the repair of complex CD/DVD mastering
and replication equipment. Provided for more accurate invoicing, thereby
protecting margins. Modified the process to allow the same for in house RMA
repairs.
Responsible for manufacturing, purchasing, inventory and warehousing,
production planning and control and facilities. Directed five exempt and 50
direct employees.
Del Mar Optical Inc., Irvine, CA- October 1993 to December 1997
Manufactured CD Mastering equipment and recordable master substrates.
Operations Manager
Joined the engineering team to assist in transitioning the product line
into production. The product line consisted of a Laser Beam Recorder
(LBR), and a recordable substrate consisting of a precision molded optical
disc with a spin coated laser reactive dye layer, produced in a cleanroom
environment.
Participated in stabilizing the substrate production process with
engineering. Expanded production to three shifts (running 24 hours) with
>90% yields. Developed database software that integrated process control,
production and QC data.
Implemented MRP for the LBR. Modeled the substrate production process
(consisted of several process steps running in parallel) and created a work
order based production control process. Established standard costs for both
products.
Engaged in a continuous improvement process to improve quality, yields and
reduce costs for the recordable substrate.
Selected and implemented ERP software. Accomplished all manufacturing
support functions: planning, purchasing, production and inventory control.
The division was acquired by Toolex B.V. in January 1998.
Del Mar Medical, Inc., Irvine, CA-September 1983 to October 1993
Manufactured Cardiac Arrhythmia Analysis systems and recorders. Annual
revenue over $300 million .
Electronic Test Manager
Managed the following departments, with a total of 40 employees:
Responsible for systems assembly and test, circuit board test and repair,
system transition from engineering to production.
Successfully managed transition from a production system based on
requirements for meeting military specifications to a more
cost effective process for commercial products.
Directed a project to develop software and procedures for a demand driven
test and repair program for used circuit boards and assemblies, greatly
reducing service requirements for new material, resulted in significant
savings and better service. The process coordinated the efforts of four
departments.
Developed software to allow all departments within the company to record
equipment problems in a shared database to assist engineering in
identifying design flaws and prioritizing corrections.
