Education
University of Pittsburgh Graduated – May 2013
Swanson School of Engineering
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering: Bachelors of Science, GPA: 3.32 Cum Laude
James Cook University (Semester Abroad) Completed – Spring 2010
Cairns, Australia School of Engineering
Studied Mining, Geology, and Regional Planning and Development
Experience
University of Pittsburgh: Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation, Student Researcher May 2013 – August 2013
Sustainable Environmental Engineering research was performed in cooperation with the University of Pittsburgh
Geology Department and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP). Research consisted of data
acquisition and analysis using Microsoft Suite, Access, and ArcGIS for the study of developing sustainable long-wall
mining practices with regard to the resilience of energy production landscapes. Research was presented to the Mascaro
Center and a formal document of results was submitted to PADEP for future implementation.
Arcadis, US, Seven Fields, PA, Technical Intern January 2011 – August 2012
I completed a three-rotation co-op as a technical intern with the environmental firm Arcadis. Working with Arcadis I
worked both in the office as well as the field. My fieldwork consisted of construction oversight, pilot testing, multiple
hydrocarbon removal techniques such as vacuum truck events, a multitude of soil and water sampling methods, as well
as lab custody chains. Working in the office I assisted in the design of remediation systems, obtained regulatory data,
and completed compliance reports.
University of Pittsburgh: American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapter, Environmental Team Lead 2010-2013
For four years I participated in the environmental water treatment contest of the Ohio Valley Student Conference for
Civil Engineers. For three of the four years competing (2011 - 2013) I acted as team captain leading our team to place
in the top three each year. As team captain, my responsibilities included the creation of the competition objective and
guidelines, water treatment research, bench scale testing, apparatus construction, and competition execution.
University of Pittsburgh: Pitt Humanitarian Engineering and Design, Environmental Team Lead Spring 2013
Working in cooperation with CH2M Hill, I worked as the Environmental Team Leader of a team of students with the
objective to improve the living conditions of the Kuna Nega Village in Panama. The focus of our work was to address
the environmental and health concerns due to a lack of water conveyance and septic system within the community. As
the Environmental Team Leader I led a group of four students in designing a water collection and treatment system in
addition to a gravity fed septic system with an elevated sand mound leach field. Our system design was approved and
is currently being implemented in Kuna Nega Village in Panama.
