PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
RJF INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION, Fairlawn, Ohio 10/1989 to 2/2013
RJF International is a $100 million manufacturer of engineered polymer products for specialty markets.
Approximately 700 people are employed at the Corporate Headquarters in Fairlawn, Ohio, Marietta Ohio,
Louisville, Ky, and other satellite sites. The company is ISO 9001 registered for calendered industrial film products.
Sr. Product Engineer (10/1997 to 2/2013) - Responsible for development and expansion of industrial polymeric
business lines, general trade, specialty, and GSA markets. Provide technical expertise in the areas of material
selection, experimental techniques, manufacturing processes, material properties and government regulations.
Provide materials technology support to production, operations and customers. Supported 300% increase in
production in last eight years.
• Provided Technical support to Marketing and Customer Service departments, by developing a cooperative
inter- departmental business relationship resulting in new products for industrial markets.
• Developed many new semi-rigid and flexible PVC compounds, rubber alloys, and unique specialty
products for diverse markets. This helped secure business from many Transit and general trade customers.
• Designed several new thermoplastic sheet embossing styles and production rolls, which became new
product lines with their respective color series.
• Modified plastic formulations and developed work/away recipes to use in-house trim and re-cycled
materials resulting in reduced raw material costs as well as avoidance of disposal charges. Experience
formulating polymeric compounds based on a wide range of thermoplastic additives. Use of CPVC and
Hypalon materials in selected products.
• Product Costing Analysis – Conducted a complete review of all the Industrial Product Groups’ overhead
and product costing structures, compounding and support group costs, accounting standards and indirect
labor costs.
• Development of S O P’s, in-process inspection and QA testing procedures, and certified testing programs.
Responsible for issuing manufacturing specifications, and production line equipment modifications.

Advanced Product Engineer (10/1989 to 9/1997)
Responsible for applied rheology and polymer processing research to improve compounding formulations and
factory processing conditions. This work increased the productivity and quality of many product lines, while
decreasing “start-up” waste. Worked closely with the product line engineers and production supervisors, performing
specialized testing procedures to develop compound and process improvements.
• Formed a self-directed, high performance work team and coached the members for seven years. Conducted
workplace training sessions which taught the members technical, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
(AMA). Increased quality, reduced scrap rates, and generated a 60 % increase in productivity.
• Performed Rheology evaluations to improve mixing processibility and for screw and die development. Use
of rheological testing instruments to simulate actual production, and design process improvements for
different polymeric compounds. Evaluate fundamental viscoelastic properties for new product design,
SPC, and for minimizing scrap.
• Increased the production quality and line productivity of many PVC extrusion grade compounds on a
Banbury / pelletizing operation. The improved mixing quality improved customer satisfaction and
increased sales, resulting in an expansion of production from 5 shifts / week to 18+ shifts. Process
improvements doubled pounds per man-hour. Within three years production losses became line profits.
• Raw Material and Compound development. Performed production line equipment trouble shooting work,
and outsourced maintenance of mixer control computers on four Banbury production lines.
• Supervised the Chemistry Lab and Physical Testing Labs. Provided factory support and training to
production operators and line supervisors on Banbury mixing, mill lines and extrusion / pelletizing, and
process control equipment.
