NEWARK BETH ISRAEL MEDICAL CENTER, NEWARK, NJ

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC) is a 673-bed regional care, teaching hospital established in

1901. NBIMC is one of two hospitals in New Jersey where Heart Transplants are performed and the only

hospital in New Jersey certified for Lung Transplant. NBIMC also has a comprehensive Robotic Surgery

program and is the State’s first accredited Sleep Disorder Center.

DIRECTOR OPERATIONS/MATERIALS MANAGEMENT (2004-2012)

Responsible for overseeing and directing the Materials Management Operation of NBIMC relative to

Procurement, Receiving, Equipment Storage, Distribution, Mail, Linen, offsite printing and forms management

per established Policies and Procedures.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

Reduced bed rentals by $276,000 per year via a Capital lease structure to purchase new/upgrade existing

Critical Care beds.

Implemented the use of Reusable Harmonic Scalpels in the Operating Room (OR), saving the OR $37,530 in

6 months.

Saved $154,000 2009 in Office Supply use by rerouting all Office Supply orders to Materials Management for

approval.

Negotiated savings of $355,000 by signing 2 year contract with Mediserve, negating standard 5% increase

per year and competitive bidding process

Negotiated savings of $262,000 in 2010 on Capital equipment acquisitions, furniture reallocation and Service

agreements.

Enhanced forms Management portal from 30 forms to over 500, creating a primary source for accurate

forms.

Managed the conversion of paper medical records to an electronic format after the closure of Irvington

General Hospital.

Reduced overtime by 50% in Distribution Services by thoroughly reviewing stock outs in the Pyxis Supply

stations.

Coordinator; accountable for the receipt and distribution of supplies for NBIMC and IGH

picking up / delivering supplies between Newark Beth, Irvington General, Saint Barnabas Medical Center
