METALLURGICAL ENGINEER
Twenty+ years experience in Metallurgical engineering, including:
. Melt shop with duplex EAF/AOD process;
. Research in a continuous casting technology;
. Metallurgical testing laboratory;
. Mini mill (carbon plate producer) with EAF and one strand
continuous slab caster.
Track record of translating business needs into solutions that
contribute to time and cost savings, risk reduction, profitability,
customer satisfaction. Ethical, innovative, and effective.
Professional Experience
EVRAZ CLAYMONT STEEL, Claymont, DE 1998 to 2013.
Metallurgical Engineer - Responsible for Quality improvement and
Production support,
as well as for conducting projects
and services for the Melt Shop and Plate Mill.
. Initiated and followed-through the chemical composition changes for
HSLA grades such as A572, A588, A656 with positive results in yield:
> reduced loss during slab conditioning by 10%-15%;
> reduced plates rejection by 5%-10%;
> reduced low temperature impacts failures by 50%.
. Developed and implemented a control rolling practice to achieve
required mechanical properties on a grade A65680.
. Suggested and developed a practice for using Nitrogen bearing
Vanadium, which reduced consumption of Ferro Vanadium by 10%-15%.
. As of a team, solved a nozzle blockage problem at the caster.
. Developed new slag practice in EAF, which reduced refractory wear by
5%.
. As part of a team, developed and implemented water quench practice
of continuously cast slab before unbending which improved slab
surface quality and reduced loss during conditioning by 0.5%-1.0%
ELGILOY SPECIALY METALS, Elgin, Il 1994 to 1998.
Metal Material Analyst - Responsible for quality assurance and
delivering material related problems solutions to a
wide range of customers in the metallurgical testing
laboratory.
. Provided quality control for cold-rolled and annealed strip of high
performance Ni-Co-Cr based materials and A286, 17-7, AM350 type
steels, Stainless Steel and titanium alloys;
. Provided evaluation of mechanical properties, tensile and hardness
tests, and microstructure characterization, to assure adherence to
AMS, ASTM, GE specifications, as well as to customer-particular
specifications;
. Proposed and designed step-by-step laboratory procedure for complete
material testing sequence, based on specification requirements.
Implemented procedure significantly sped up the required tests and
increased the efficiency of the laboratory by 25%;

Professional Experience
Metal Material Analyst (continued)
. Conducted and completed research project on carbide precipitation
mechanism in the 304 type stainless steel, resulting in development of
better heating and cooling profiles that eliminated carbide precipitation
in the grain boundaries.
. Developed a new technique of sample preparation than reduced the total
time of analysis.
. Developed a method of improving mechanical properties of titanium
Ti40 (titanium grade 2) using Ti25 (titanium grade 1) as a base
material. This method contributed to an increase in profit margins
by 5% for the plant by using a more flexible approach for
purchasing.
RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF STEELS AND ALLOYS, Zaporozhye, Ukraine 1991 to 1994
Senior Metallurgical Engineer - Responsible for research and development
of a new mold powders for continuous casting,
using recycled slag.
. Developed powders resulted in 10% price reduction and an improved
manufacturing environment.
. Worked on implementation of a new method of improving the internal
structure of continuously cast slab.
DNEPROSPETSSTAL, Zaporozhye, Ukraine 1987 to 1991
Production manager - Responsible for managing an AOD shop. Specialized in
stainless steel.
