Chief Architect supporting GMs Global Business Services, which includes all of GMs Financial, Human

Resources, Legal and Communications applications. Operated in a multi-supplier environment, which

required cooperation across company boundaries. Also provided architecture services to AT&T.

• Application Portfolio Assessment

o Led an application assessment and refactoring of the payroll & benefits applications for AT&T, which

resulted in a significant reduction in application complexity. The reduction of cyclomatic complexity reduced

application maintenance expense by over 30%.

o Conducted an assessment of the cost, risk, volatility and business value of GMs financial applications and,

based on the results, refactored a key application resulting in a reduction in CPU usage of over 70%. I used

the TriTune analysis tool to understand where excess CPU cycles were being consumed and identified minor

programming changes that yielded significant improvements.

• Developed and implemented an Architecture Governance Process

o Developed and implemented the process, under the direction of the GM account Chief Technology

Officer. This process addressed all aspects of IT projects (Standards compliance, Requirements, Security,

Infrastructure, Data, Integration, Operations, Testing). I directed the integration of the governance process

into the System Development Life Cycle to ensure that architecture governance checkpoints were passed. The

implementation and evolution of this process resulted in greatly improved quality and reduced cost of

production deployment and ongoing maintenance.

• Legacy Application Modernization

o Planned and defined the data conversion and integration for the implementation of PeopleSoft HRM for

GM.

o Responsible for business rule extraction, conversion design, interface definition, data quality assessment

and test planning activities to implement a J2EE replacement of a legacy mainframe application.

o Led the planning and definition phase of a project to replace a mainframe timekeeping application with a

Java based COTS application

for GM.

o Initiated a process to analyze mainframe resource usage using the Strobe tool. Used the results of this

analysis to define and implement program modifications that reduced the overall cost of mainframe resources,

for GMs benefit applications by 40%.

• Led a Business Information Planning effort for GMs Human Resources

activities.

o Worked with client business & IT leaders to assess the capabilities of the HR IT application portfolio in

supporting the HR business processes. This resulted a strategy, a detailed roadmap and business case for GM

migration to PeopleSoft HRM.

• Technical leader for the plan/design of an integrated employee payment

application.

o Lead the planning and design of an application to integrate the employee payments from several payroll

and benefit applications.

o Provided technical leadership, consulting and training in the use of the System Vision toolkit for
