Thomas Jefferson University Literature Research Project I & II
May-August 2010
. Successfully performed research on CNS regeneration and created and
delivered PowerPoint presentation to instructors and classmates
. Included comprehensive literature review; effectively gathered data on
current state and future prospects of CNS regeneration
Database Project
May-June 2010
. Effectively created genotype-phenotype mutation database for ABCR via MS
Excel, resulting in 309+ database entries; presented findings to Director
of Biotechnology for use in ongoing genetic research
. Conducted PubMed literature search and analyzed data to define
information relevant to mutations
Recombinant Protein Expression in E.coli
May-August 2010
. Facilitated generation and purification of plasmid DNA from wild-type and
mutant recombinant strains and verified plasmid insert via restriction
endonuclease digestion
. Research included transformation of DE3 E.coli cell line for use in
recombinant protein production and expression of recombinant proteins
using IPTG inducible T7 system as well as verification of correct
polypeptide using SDS-PAGE analysis followed by Coomassie and/or silver
staining
. Employed electronic photo documentation of SDS-PAGE
. Prepared frozen stabs for archiving of recombinant strains; stored in
-80 C freezer for future experimental use
Work Experience
University of Pennsylvania Temporary Research Assistant
February 2013-December 2013
. Handle overflow in the Histology portion of the Department of
Orthopaedic Surgery laboratories.
. Perform tasks such as: sectioning slides with a microtome; staining
slides; imaging slides with an Eclipse microscope; analyze slides with
the micro-CT machine; compression testing; OHP, GAG, and Picogreen
assays.
