JOHNSON & JOHNSON/PFIZER INC., Morris Plains, NJ
10/2001 - 04/2007
Dir., Project Management & Facility Planning, Reporting to the Sr.
Director, Facility Solutions
Responsibilities include management of the Engineering Project Management,
Space Planning and MAC (Moves/Adds/Changes) groups totaling 19 individuals.
Major accomplishments include the following:
. Restructured/reorganized the entire department as the entering director
for the above groups. Accomplished despite the existence of 3 different
corporate cultures. Hard and difficult human resources decisions were
made for some existing colleagues. Within 5 months the department was
successfully restructured and properly sourced to handle all assigned
projects/tasks including a $15 mil per year capital budget.
. Spearheaded the Project Management and Space Planning team for the $450
mil expansion project to perform the enormous task of site selection for
all of New Jersey including the Pfizer New York headquarters population
due to the unforeseen acquisition of Pharmacia. Seven (7) sites and
approximately 10,000 colleagues and contract personnel were included in
the analysis. Simultaneous tasks performed included the various site
analysis (Master Planning, 9 months) demographics studies (8 months),
construction and commissioning planning (12 months) and construction
(anticipated to be 4 years). The Morris Plains site was selected to be
the main Pfizer NJ site. Site is being increased from 1.3 mil sq. ft. to
2.2 mil sq. ft. All activities were successfully completed by this team
on time and construction is currently in progress. Other highlights of
this entire effort include:
o Finalization of the JCP&L electrical and other utility contracts
thereby allowing significant additional new building square
footage.
o Partnered with Morris Plains Township officials significantly
modifying the Zoning Code allowing substantially enhanced new
construction on the site. Major modifications resulted in
significant cost reductions and/or better utilization of
Pfizer's resources. Entire section write-ups of the new zoning
code were provided by this group allowing construction to be
built to meet the significant company needs.
o Company liaison for neighbors affected by the Master Plan
construction with overall very high neighbor satisfaction
despite the significant impact of construction.
. As a "line" Project Manager the following projects were successfully
completed:
o B201 Renovation Project-$32mil. Assumed responsibility for this
troubled project midway through the renovation. Successfully and
expediently reconstructed the project's entire administrative
process to conform to appropriate company standards,
commissioning guidelines, policies and procedures (Sarbanes-
Oxley). Resumed on a fast track basis renovation work to 75% of
the project scope. Project was terminated with the acquisition
by JNJ.
o Morris Plains Site Separation Projects, Voice Communications-
$1.2 mil and Security-$1 mil. These projects had to be delivered
on a fast track basis to be ready for the finalization of the
JNJ acquisition of the Pfizer Consumer Health Care division.
Inception to completion time allowed was only 6 weeks and 4
weeks respectfully. These projects were brought to acceptable
completion in these highly constrained time frames.
