WORK EXPERIENCE
2013 - Present: QualitySolicitors Mirza
I am working as a volunteer paralegal and currently working in the crimes
department dealing with police station clients' files and courts files. I
will be soon getting experience in all the areas of law that the firm
specialises in. Personal Injury
2012 - 2013: Trent Chambers
I worked as a trainee caseworker and paralegal for a barrister, dealing
with immigration, human rights, family cases and employment cases. My
duties involved; legal researching, attending tribunal and courts hearings,
taking minutes, preparing court bundles, dealing with judicial review
applications, Rule 39 applications to European Court of Human Rights,
drafting statements, proofreading, read case files and discuss points of
law with the counsel and solicitors. I can communicate in Urdu, Punjabi and
English, and my language skills have enabled me to make a positive impact
by facilitating the communication between clients and this practice.
2006 - 2013: Nottingham Credit Union (BANKING ADMINISTRATOR)
I worked part time as a customer service officer and cashier. My duties
included; training and supervising all volunteers and training new staff,
cashiering, dealing with transactions, administration work, assisted with
administration of the deposit, dealt with enquiries and the requirements of
customers, checking documentations and paying attention to details. I was
able to run work branches independently. I used excellent communication and
customer service skills to effectively resolve customer concerns, queries
and complaints. I was able to make some business contacts while promoting
the company.
2011 - 2012: Nottingham & Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum
I worked as a volunteer adviser, my duties involved; giving advice on
various areas such as immigration issues, liaising with reporting centre,
local authorities, utility companies, United Kingdom Border Agency, and
solicitors.
2010 - 2012: Nottingham Citizen Bureau
I worked as a volunteer and my roles were Gateway Assessor and information
assistant. My duties involved; taking telephone gateway assessment
interviews as a means of exploring the client's problem(s) and situation,
assessing risk and urgency for intervention. Explain complex legal
information to clients in a flexible manner to ensure understanding.
2007 - 2008: Nottingham Law Centre
I worked as a volunteer and my duties included; shadowing a caseworker,
administration, interviewing clients and filling various application forms.
2009 - 2009: 1st Call Immigration Services
I shadowed an Immigration advisor for two weeks and my jobs involved; legal
researching, preparing case bundles for court hearings, writing letters,
photocopying, dealing with incoming and outgoing mails, answering phone
calls, and general administration.
2009 - 2010: Blue Bell Hill Primary School
I had an opportunity to work in Blue Bell Hill Primary School as an
assistant teacher through Nottingham Trent University's scheme called
Students in Classroom. My duties included; assisting the teacher, working
with small groups of pupils, planning and preparing for the sessions,
keeping records of everyday's tasks, and attending staff meetings.
HOBBIES AND INTERESTS
I enjoy reading books, cooking, gardening, socialising, travelling and
learning new skills i.e. playing instruments. I love traveling overseas; I
have visited Dublin, France, Geneva, Switzerland where I was able to attend
office of United Nations, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Red Cross,
World Health Organisation, and International Labour Organisation.
