Personal Summary
Having recently completed a Masters in Plant Genetics, I am eager to continue working
in a research environment, and have accumulated valuable experience and a range of applicable
skills. In addition to gaining familiarity with a broad range of laboratory procedures, I have
developed excellent oral and written communication skills. I am highly motivated to learn new
skills and techniques, and am confident that I can play an important role as part of a research
team.

Intern, January 2010- March 2010
Lab Assistant, April 2010- August 2010
Lab Skills
● Confocal and light microscopy; microscope image capture and analysis.
● In situ hybridization.
● Robotic image capture for extended phenotypic analysis.
● Plant tissue culture; selection, propagation, collection, and storage.
● Crossing of plants for unique phenotypes.
● DNA and RNA isolation and quantification from fresh and frozen samples using a CTAB
buffer solution or extraction kit.
● PCR and Southern blot analysis.
● DNA cloning and transformation through inoculation with Agrobacterium rhizogenes.
● Reporter gene assays (GUS, GFP, lacZ).
Research Skills
Much experience with data collection, organization, and analysis. Reliable and accurate
data collection and interpretation was a central part of my work at the Parrott Lab, as well
as for my graduate project.
Strong oral and written communication skills. I gave several presentations and
participated in group discussions during my Masters, demonstrating my ability to
communicate scientific methods and results to a varied audience.
Performed formal literature searches and reviews for my dissertation, as well as papers
for graduate courses.
Expertise with statistical software (Genstat, R, Excel). Among other occasions, I used
these programs to investigate growth curves in response to various chemical treatments.
Experienced user of MS Office and image processing programs (ImageJ, GIMP, and
Leica software).
Language Skills
● Good understanding of spoken and written German. Studied abroad in Dortmund,
Germany for a full academic year.
Honors & Awards
