Part-time Faculty, September 1995 to present. Teaching Ecology and Human

Affairs, Urban Geography and, Science Technology Society in a private

urban, commuter art, design, and communications college. The Environmental

Science course explains the principles of ecology and the need to balance

the technosphere with the ecosphere. This course emphasizes the inter-

relatedness of the natural world and the built environment. It endeavors to

enhance the ability of the student to use and understand the natural

processes and conditions in relation to their work and how consumerism

affects the environment. Urban Geography: the Evolution of Cities and

Science Technology and Society from Fall 2004.

The School of the Art Institute, Chicago, IL

Adjunct Assistant Professor September 1996 to present. Teaching in the

Liberal Arts and AIADO Depts. Botany: The Plant Science. The course covers

the physiological, functional, chemical, spiritual and aesthetic aspects of

plants. Also included is the link between plants and humankind within the

context of art, design. Topics in Environmental Science and Urban

Geography: The Study of Cities. A study of city development and planning

including international and American cities. Topics covered include

location, environment, transportation, architecture, ethnicity,

immigration, sustainability, social, political and economic factors,

business and industrial zoning and the gentrification and cycling of

neighborhoods. Green Map Project: mapping Chicago neighborhood-by-

neighborhood to document sites that promote sustainable living. The Green

Architecture, Interior Architecture and Designed Objects Dept on Green

Materials. A studio course that reviews sustainable materials and systems

for interiors, buildings and products for construction, landscape, fashion,

Visiting Faculty, January 1998 to present. Teaching courses in Urban

Ecology, Botany, Science, Technology and Society. New classes The Value of

Plants: Global Agricultural Economics, Urban Geography and Principles of a

Sustainable Lifestyle in the adult Bachelor's' degree program.

Harrington School of Design, Chicago, IL

Part-time Faculty. September 2004 to 2006. Sustainable Design. This course

that investigates green design, materials and systems in interior

architecture. The studio component includes product research and

specification writing. Sustainable design insures healthy environments for

building users and manufacturing facilities while maintaining safe

extraction and production processes of all building materials. Water

conservation, energy efficiency, smart lighting, IAQ, fast renewables,

ergonomics and recycled content are some areas addressed in this course.

Landscape Operations Supervisor, Southeast Region Feb--Sep 2000

Responsible for all landscape design and maintenance in 124 parks on the

city's south side. Supervision of 103 full and part time employees, budget,

capital improvement, equipment purchasing, scheduling, design and special

events.

Forest Preserve District of Cook County, Chicago, IL

Environmental Planner November 1995 to Aug 1999. Development of a strategic

comprehensive management plan for the District's 67,700 acre (urban)

natural resource. This project was funded through the USDA Forest Service

and the USDI Fish and Wildlife Service. Included are a needs assessment,

public involvement/input methodology, historical overview and policy

recommendations. Working with existing volunteer organizations, developing

new volunteer partnerships and municipal/county collaborations.

Collaborating with federal, state and local public/private open space

agencies on policy, funding and implementation. Incorporating GIS as a tool

to augment natural areas management decisions. ADA assessments and its

impact on the resource, and the role of ecological research on current

values and uses (recreation, education and outreach).

February 1995 to present. Consultation and design of residential and small

commercial projects in the Chicago metro area. Client contact, inventory,

Owner March 1984 to August 1991. Owned and operated a landscape

design/build firm. Employed seasonal employees. Performed all aspects of

the landscape business including: design, construction, sales, management,

accounting, and a greenhouse operation for perennials, herbs, and ground

covers. Business included small commercial, residential, new construction,

renovations, contemporary and historic landscapes.

Hiring and supervising greenhouse and nursery seasonal personnel.

for pesticide management and training. Purchase plants, chemicals, and

fertilizers for the garden center/nursery. Responsible for weekly payroll,

daily receipts, advertising, promotions, seasonal displays, and a Holiday

Surgery Department

Ellis Fischel Cancer Center Research Specialist June 1990 to August 1991.

To develop an effective alternate therapy for colorectal cancer by means of

hyperthermic liver perfusion. Research methods include small animal

surgery, bioassays for Fe, GSH, conjugated dienes, aldehydes, the

measurement of hydrocarbons, ethane and pentane using gas chromatography,

data analysis, computer documentation, and reviewing recent research

journals for new developments in this area.

Agronomy Department, Corn Genetics

Research Specialist February 1981 to May 1982. Maintenance of an up-to-

date mutant collection of over 1000 single loci gene mutants. Assist in

research projects such as the defective kernel mutants, lesion mutants,

ring chromosome studies, BA translocations for locating gene loci, and

allelism studies. Hire and supervise three to nine part-time employees in

the lab and in the field. Edit grant proposals and to make suggestions for

further corn genetics studies.

Division of Nephrology, UMC Medical School

Sr. Research Lab Technician January 1978 to October 1979. Small animal

surgery, micro and macro bioassays, electron microscopy, radio isotope

bioassays, statistical analysis and supervision of medical student

physiological projects. Area of research: causes of acute renal failure

due to a chemotherapeutic drug under NIH investigation (cis Platinum).

Animal Science Research Center, Poultry Nutrition Columbia, Missouri

Lab Technician August 1976 to January 1978. Nutrition studies on wood duck

metabolism while feeding a diet of natural seeds; using the bomb

calorimeter, amino acid analyzer, and computing statistical analysis.

Identify and count prairie songbirds on a 120-acre tract of Conservation
