Work Experiences
Therapy Works (US Virgin Islands)
Physiotherapist Assistant Full time November 2012
- December 2013
I spent just over a year at Therapy Works (13 months) where I was presented
with a unique and fantastic opportunity to consolidate my firsthand
experience of injury rehabilitation from my time as a professional
footballer, to aid patients with their rehabilitation with a variation of
physical issues. I was able to relate directly with the patients as most of
their physical injuries left behind mental scarring and it was comforting
for them to listen to my experience on the subject matter. Some of my
duties as a physiotherapist assistant included;
. To assist with the care of patients, and to provide treatment to
patients following a pre-prescribed treatment plan.
. To examine if the pre prescribed treatment plan has been optimized for
the patients need and to recognize change in the condition of a
patient, decide whether to treat and watch and document the patient
response/reaction to any treatment undertaken.
. To build a rapport with patients to ensure that treatments prescribed
are the most effective and tailored for the individual patient.
. Helping patients to adapt to sometimes radical changes to their body,
such as Total Knee Replacement and Torn rotator cuff.
. Recognizing the different stages of injury rehabilitation and
choosing an appropriate and suitable exercise plan for the patient.
. Utilizing different equipment's such as ultrasound, muscle stimulation
machines etc, in making an informed decision on the treatment of the
patient.
