Director of Human Resources & Director of Affirmative Action/Equal

Employment Opportunity September 2011 to present.

Serve as lead on human resources issues (for unionized faculty and non-

unionized staff). Review and develop campus human resources policies and

procedures. Supervise staff in the areas of payroll, benefit, employment,

dual career, ombudsman, child care, and classification/compensation. Ensure

payrolls are completed for biweekly and monthly cycles for 2,000

individuals. Ensure benefits are properly administered for 850 individuals

including health, dental, vision, life, long term disability, long term

care, dependent life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment,

retirement, employee/dependent scholarship and flexible spending accounts.

Assist in the supervision of the employee wellness program by coordinating

resources, providing programming suggestions and funding. Review HR (SAP)

data for completeness and accuracy. Respond to and analyze salary surveys.

Serve as campus ADA coordinator, provide accommodation plans for employees,

advise on student accommodation plans, review building and renovation plans

for ADA compliance, respond to ADA guest requests and any federal or legal

charges and chair ADA committee. Handle Title IX compliance for the campus

including training, tracking issues, investigating complaints and

responding (for Athletics compliance as well as sexual harassment

compliance). Participate as an ad hoc representative for Staff Senate to

facilitate communication between staff and administration. Monitor human

resources actions for compliance with federal and state regulations.

Respond to legal claims dealing with human resources. Administer campus

grievance and discrimination processes. Monitor departmental budget. Ensure

salaries are administered according to the NU Values

classification/compensation system and according to the faculty collective

bargaining agreement. Serve as campus Records Officer to develop record

retention schedules, collect records to respond to records requests and

implement records holds per legal counsel. Conduct training for members of

campus search committees. Help promote recruitment of diverse faculty and

staff groups. Review hiring procedures, compensation levels, promotion

patterns, and recruitment efforts which have a direct bearing on the

attainment of AA/EO goals and objectives. Ensure the maintenance of records

which document employment actions (recruiting, hiring, promotion, etc.) in

a manner that facilitates achievement of goals. Supervise the Child

Development Center including 30 plus staff and serving 60 children. Serve

on a University-wide Affirmative Action Council and Diversity Council which

advises the President. Attend Administrative Council and Vice Chancellor

meetings as required. Serve as a division lead for emergency responders for

campus.
