This is the reference Mr Paul Felbeck wrote for my application at HMP Onley. Please feel
free to contact him if you wish.
Mrs Boulton was engaged by me as my mother’s carer for several years, and enabled my
mother to live independently in her own home until she finally moved in with me and my
family in September last year. Mrs Boulton is hard-working, highly responsible, honest
and dependable. My mother was in her mid-to-late eighties during Mrs Boulton’s tenure
and her needs escalated over time; she suffered from dementia in the last couple of years
and was ultimately diagnosed with Alzheimer’s-type dementia. Mrs Boulton was
responsible for all aspects of personal care, shopping, meal planning, scheduling
appointments and liaising with healthcare professionals. She also undertook basic
f inancial organisation (paying for shopping and other personal care bills) for my mother,
and acted as a main point of contact in the event of a crisis. Mrs Boulton is intelligent and
articulate, and very capable of using her own initiative and working without supervision.
Equally importantly, she has a good sense of humour, a cheerful disposition and a “can-
do” attitude. It would not have been possible for my mother to retain her independence,
even after the initial symptoms of dementia appeared, for as long as she did without Mrs
Boulton’s constant attention and flexible approach to caring for her. When I was away on
business or travelling with my family, Mrs Boulton in effect had sole charge, which was a
source of great relief for us. I cannot speak highly enough of her and am delighted to be
asked to act as her referee – she would be an asset to any organisation.
If you have a more structured form that you would like me to complete, please send it to
me either by email or by post to the address below. Please also feel free to call me at any
time to discuss any aspect of this reference. I am a solicitor by profession and General
Counsel (i.e. head of legal) for TT Electronics plc, a UK multinational company traded
on the London Stock Exchange employing approximately 5000 people worldwide.
Yours sincerely
