Personal Statement
Having taught for 21 years as a full time teacher, I decided to take early retirement from the teaching
profession in order to follow a different career path. In the time since leaving teaching, I have
developed my photography and photo-journalism skills, gaining an NCFE Level 2 Certificate in
Photography, as well as writing numerous articles for national monthly magazines. I pride myself on
producing work of the highest possible standard, and will never put my name to anything which falls
short of this level. I am highly motivated and keen to succeed; my years in teaching have helped me
become aware of the importance of working well as a team, setting and reaching targets, and I also
have 5 years’ experience of being the leader of a team of teachers as part of my role of Head of Year at
Queensbury School.
Experience
2013 Sept – Nov. Freelance Schools’ Photographer working for Lionheart School Photography
2013 March – Sept. Freelance Courier Driver for Yodel Delivery Company

journalist, I also write and take the accompanying photographs for articles for
national angling magazines such as Improve Your Coarse Fishing, Pike & Predators,
Pikelines, Anglers’ Mail and The Angling Star.
I have created a website to showcase and advertise my photography; it can be found at

Interests
As well as my passion for photography, I love sport, especially football and cricket, having played
cricket to a high standard in previous years. I am very musical, playing piano and guitar, as well as
writing songs, and I like listening to a variety of different types of music. I also love fishing,
especially for pike, but I fish for a variety of different species throughout the year; as mentioned
earlier, this has led to commissions for writing articles (and supplying the accompanying photographs)
for national angling publications and magazines.
I have recently co-written the biography of the pop group Smokie along with Terry Uttley who is the
band’s sole surviving member from the height of their popularity and fame in the 1970s. The book has
now been published by Peak Platform Publishing, and is available as a physical book as well as an e-
Book.
