At Big Lots I mostly run the cash register. As a cashier my duties are to keep my area swept
and cleaned. I keep the merchandise on the register organized and stocked. I also greet
customers as they walk in with a smile and tell them to have great day on their way out. Also
as a cashier I am responsible for answering the phone. I am responsible for calling other
stores to make sure an item is in stock if we do not have it. Another duty I perform is pricing
new items that come in. When I check customers out it is my duty to inform them of the
rewards card and their perks for having one. Other nights that I work, but not on register, I
zone aisles and assist customers with items they need help getting or finding.
Deli Associate / Bakery Associate

In the Deli, I assist customers with outstanding customer service. I do my best to make sure
the customer leaves satisfied. I welcome the customers with a good morning/ afternoon and
ask if I could be any assistance for them. I even offer free samples with politeness. I prepare
food for the sandwich case, meat case as well as salad case. Salads in the salad case are made
fresh daily. I cut deli meats and cheeses in perfection for the customer’s satisfaction. Dinner
plates are made to the customer’s satisfaction. The food is made fresh daily in the morning. I
label the foods with description stickers and price stickers for sale. In the mornings I check
the dates,loses are recorded and inventory is done. I make sure the chickens are in date after I
unload them off the truck and put in the deli cooler. The meats are rotated and organized my
date. I stock the holes in deli sales floor and in the kitchen. The meat cutter is thoroughly
cleaned. In the evening when closing the deli I take out the trash and I sweep and sanitize the
floors. In the kitchen the hot bar gets broke down and the salads get covered. I make large as
well as special orders such as fried chicken order for special occasions. I also make any kind
of deli try for special occasion. I use the cash register in the deli for the customer’s liking with
a speedy check out with no line to wait in. I have trained four deli associate for 2nd shift. I was
a deli assistant and did the paper work and the labour work for that position.
In the bakery, I closed and cleaned the department. To close the bakery I labelled and put out
product for sale. I wrote on cakes for customers and made cookies. Also made cake orders. I
would make bread and cut it, package it then put it out. I took the inventory of doughnuts and
packaged then marked them down in price for sale. I made angel and cream cakes. I washed
dishes and scrubbed the floors. I prepped cookies and bread for the morning shift. The trash
was taken out nightly. I trained one girl for night shift.
