SMS Equipment Inc. is a supplier of off-highway trucks, hydraulic shovels, rotary blast hole drills and parts and service to open pit mines in Canada. SMS Equipment Inc. also supplies equipment to the construction and forestry industries.

1.1 Technical responsibilities included:

1.1.1 Windows 2003 and 2008 operating system and active directory support and management.

1.1.2 Exchange Server 2007 support and management.

1.1.3 Converted all existing physical servers over to virtual servers and implemented VMware products extensively throughout the organization in several data centers.

1.1.4 Architected and implemented a complete Cisco VOIP unified communications system to replace disparate phones systems in all of the branch offices. Managed and maintained the Cisco Unified Communications, Cisco Unity Connection and IPcelerate paging server UC on UCS clusters.

1.1.5 Redesigned the WAN to take advantage of more modern MPLS networks.

1.1.6 Re-architected all LAN networks from using primarily old 3COM hubs to using Cisco products, setup the new network to take advantage of CDP, VLANs. Quality of Service and other layer 2 and layer 3 technologies.

1.1.7 Installed and configured line of sight Cisco wireless for our remote warehouse in Elkford. Subsequently designed line of sight wireless solutions for our Chetwynd and Port Coquitlam branches.

1.1.9 Assisted desktop support resources when they had more complex problems.

1.1.10 Re-architected the way backups were performed and implemented Microsoft’s Shadow Copy Service, Distributed File System and several other technologies to ensure both normal file level backups and disaster recovery was quick and easy for entire production systems with as little visible impact to the users as possible.

1.1.11 Responsible for migration of a complex data center from Mississauga Ontario to Acheson Alberta, redesigned existing data center to compensate.

1.1.12 Tied together a disparate network of twenty eight site to site VPN locations (Cisco ASAs), twenty two ATM network based locations into a network of five MPLS based locations. While also not breaking links to closely tied business partners and sister companies that are closely tied into the environment.

1.1.13 Designed and coordinated the installation of three large branch offices in Mongolia, subsequently provided support for these offices (LAN/WAN/VoIP/Wireless).

Provided strategic direction and managed the computing needs for the Videon Edmonton offices. This included a two call centres, executive offices, mobile sale forces, advertising and production departments, engineering departments and a considerable range of other personnel each with their own unique requirements and business challenges.

4.1 Technical Responsibilities included:

4.1.1 Administrator of Videon’s Rockwell ACD, Syntellect IVR, Meridian Mail systems and responsible for the integration of a Telus controlled Meridian M1 system.

4.1.2 Responsible for the implementation and administration of Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0, Microsoft Exchange, Right Fax and all other servers in the corporate computing environment. Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and SQL databases.

4.1.3 Managed to properly plan for extensive growth while maintaining a budgetary surplus on a constrained budget of a half million dollars.

4.1.4 Provided desktop support for approximately 200 Windows NT 4 computers, 130 Windows 2000 desktops, 80 AS400 terminals and 10 Windows NT 4 and Windows 2000 servers. Was also required to support several critical OS/2 systems.

4.1.5 Responsible for the design and implementation then support and maintenance of the Cisco based LAN on the corporate network.

1. Initiatives brought in under my direction:

4.2.1 Implemented PXE server services for efficient imaging of new and existing computers in two separate call centres containing 130 desktops. Implementing PXE services and Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0 reduced the need for having three desktop support staff down to one; the time to fix or redeploy PCs was also reduced substantially which further reduced costs and increased ROI. Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and SQL databases.

4.2.2 Created scripted application packages for deployment to new and re-imaged PCs. Recent experience with creating and supporting Visual Basic and WinBatch scripts. Hands on experience with Install Shield and WinInstall packaging tools. Recent experience in training and supervising certification / packaging analysts and distribution analysts. Experience in the use of package creation tools, such as the SMS Installer and Microsoft Installer Service.

4.2.3 Reduced hardware and support costs by replacing the numerous single function printing devices, fax machines and photocopiers down to a handful of multifunction devices strategically placed throughout the site.

4.2.4 Standardized all call centre PCs on small form factor devices greatly reducing acquisition and support costs.

4.2.5 Assisted in developing Videon to Shaw staff conversion plans utilizing Microsoft Project 2000, provided project management during conversion.

4.2.6 Designed, upgraded, implemented and administered Videon’s corporate Cisco network.

SHL Systemhouse was one of Canada’s leading IT service providers that underwent many name changes while I was working for them, some of the names included: SHL Systemhouse; SHL Systemhouse an MCI Company; SHL Systemhouse an MCI/Worldcom Company; EDS; EDS Innovations and finally NexInnovations. Works as a systems engineer / consultant throughout all of these corporate changes.

1. Provided guidance to numerous clients regarding emerging technologies and future directions within the industry and how they can best position themselves to take advantage of these new developments within their organizations.

2. Often brought into complex networks on a mercurial basis to fix complex problems and provide strategic direction to assist in achieving business goals.
