EXPERIENCE
SMALL BUSINESS, Contractor, March 2009 – January 2013
Worked in a small landscaping business.
CATALENT PHARMA SOLUTIONS, Sr. Associate, December 2008 – March 2009
Developed, and validated HPLC analytical methods for drug stability. Also monitored drug
stability other using analytical techniques such as UV-Vis, fluorescence, FTIR, and Karl Fischer.
Performed and documented all work within pertinent US Pharmacopeia protocols, cGLP standards,
and Six Sigma methods. Wrote certificates of analysis, and project reports.
AZURE INSTITUTE, Associate Scientist, August 2004 – February 2007
Under general supervision synthesized, isolated and characterized analogs of organometallic red-
ox mediators for electrochemical blood glucose meters. Synthesized, isolated and characterized
drugs of abuse in milligram to multi-gram scales. Coupled and purified (by size exclusion
chromatography, and dialysis) novel adducts of drugs of abuse (as haptens) and different
immunogenic proteins, at milligram scales. Responsible for all chemistry laboratory operations and
safety within ISO 9000 guidelines.
HEWLETT-PACKARD INKS RESEARCH, Temporary Laboratory Tech., April 2004 – June 2004
Prepared experimental ink formulations. Tested inks for various physical properties (such as
viscosity, density, surface tension, and pH). Prepared reports for ink-chemists. Perform and
document all work to meet cGLP standards.
TEACHING, Tutor, October 2003 – March 2004
Tutored high school science, math, and English in El Salvador.
DUPONT PHARMACEUTICALS, Staff Scientist, May 2001 – November 2002
Under general supervision designed, synthesized, isolated, and characterized targeted small
molecule libraries (50-100 compounds at a milli-mole scale) using: proprietary structure-activity
relation software; combinatorial solution-phase chemistry; high throughput HPLC-MS
(preparatory and analytical) systems; high throughput robotics; and organic synthesis techniques.
The targets for said libraries were G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and for an agonist for the
VII-a factor in the coagulation cascade of human blood. Synthesized, purified and characterized
gram to multi-gram quantities of synthetic intermediates and high-purity biological assay
standards. Worked in interdisciplinary team of biochemists, synthetic, analytical, and
computational chemists.
COMBICHEM, Temporary Lab. Tech. to Staff Scientist, May 1998 – April 2001
Managed a reagent tracking system. Trained employees for the compound management group.
Formatted, shipped and archived all the compounds synthesized in-house. Managed the
compounds’ electronic data. Designed and implemented procedures to insure the accuracy,
precision and timeliness of the compound management group. Designed and implemented
modifications to workstations and instruments to integrate them into the company's production
line. Helped design the company’s production line, and database tracking system. Evaluated,
bought, and maintained, workstations and instruments. Performed all work within cGLP
guidelines.
BIOSYSTEMATECH, Laboratory Technician, May 1997 – April 1998
Edged glass surfaces, and carried out the synthesis of nucleotides (at milli-mole scale), and of
organosilicon molecular self-assembled mono layers (at micro mole scale) on glass surfaces.
Evaluated the surface properties of different elastomers. Designed, constructed and tested simple
microfluidics devices with elastomers.
L.A. WATER RECLAMATION DISTRICTS, Temporary Lab. Tech., January 1997 – April 1997
Performed analysis (such as dissolved oxygen, turbidity, suspended solids, volatiles content,
nitrogen content, chlorine content, pH, and bacterial load) of water to monitor the water-
purification process of various water reclamation plants. Prepared daily reports of the plant’s
status. Prepared laboratory reagents and standards. Solely responsible for all weekend, and holy
day laboratory operations.
