PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Over the last 9+ years, as a Six Sigma Blackbelt, I have been the lead belt
on Internal and Customer projects for both my former employers.
Projects included: Continuous Improvement, waste reduction, Visual
workplace, Lean Sigma, Kaizen Events, 5S.
Working at Quanex, I was the production manager in Luck, Wisconsin with
over 50 employees. Qualex's core business is Fenestration. Quanex (Colonial
Craft/Owings Floor) is a manufacturer of wood related products - jambs,
casements, engineered flooring, grills to Anderson Windows. Duties included
overseeing all aspects of the daily operation. In addition, a primary
function was to charter and lead all Lean Six Sigma and 5S projects to
include continuous improvement, reduce cycle times, TPM, OEE that
dovetailed into the business strategy.
Prior to Quanex, I was employed at SunChemical Corporation for over 25
years holding increased levels of responsibility. The last position I held
was that of Six Sigma Blackbelt Project Manager. SunChemical being a
pigment, ink and chemicals manufacture drove me to leading projects using
the DMAIC process. Leading cross functional teams of 5 to 12 members, we
worked on diverse projects drawn from voice of the customer,Continuous
improvement, reliability, cost improvement, product improvement and the
business strategy at the time.
Before being the Blackbelt project Manager, I was awarded the post of
Assistant Global Technical Manager - working from the Research and
Development Lab located in Carlstadt, NJ. Our mission was to find the "best
of Class" raw material(s) and finished goods available globally - and
articulate it to all of SunChemical labs and product managers. While in
this position, we found products and raw materials that helped SunChemical
increase market share, reduce costs and improve customer satisfaction -
especially in the Mexico and Euro markets. We also developed the concept of
"Total Cost" - and the effect our product has on improving productivity at
our customers. I developed a Database Analysis system that became
copyrighted and Trademarked by my employer.
Before being the Assistant Global Director, I was a branch manager for two
major facilities for nearly 18 years. (Atlanta and Nashville). Nashville
was a storefront when I became its manager in 1980 - we grew the sales from
3.0M to just over 14.0M the first 5 years I was there. I then went to
Atlanta as branch manager in 1985 to help a facility that had been known
for running in the red with no sales growth. We had 50+ employees with 10M
in sales and in the red; within 12 months, with a strong team, we turned
around the profit and went into the black. Over the next 4 years we
continued to improve profitability while increasing our sales to a little
over 20M.
Returning to Nashville in 1990 as the market was changing and it required a
more experienced manager, I developed a sales and service strategy that
increased sales from 10M to over 28M in 5 years. We looked at the changing
business segments and developed a strategy of service and sales teams,
presentations, training and recapitalized our plant to handle new products
that we were to sell. The facility remained viable through 2006 as
SunChemical closed their branch network going to centralized manufacture
and business systems.
Through all the years as a branch manager, it was a terrific opportunity to
become highly knowledgeable in financial, sales, service aspects of
building budgets, servicing customers, growing as an individual. Leading
people to achieve goals - providing resources, removing roadblocks, and
finding the best person for the right job was rewarding and an
accomplishment that made sales and profit growth possible!
