Nov 2006 – Dec 2010 : Chief Director : Department of Communication for the 2010 FIFA
World Cup Telecommunications infrastructure project. Responsible for the following:
• Ensure the telecommunications infrastructure is implemented as follows: National
Backbone, Access Network, Satellite back-up network, International Broadcasting Centre,
International undersea cable connectivity.
• Conclude the contracts with Telkom and Sentech to ensure in the delivery
• Monitor the implementation of the 2010 network to ensure that the project timelines are
met, and within the R1,2bn budget.
• Co-ordinate wit Host Cities to ensure that the stadiums are also IT ready.
• Monitor the Security and Protection of the 2010 IT&T solution
Jan 2005 – Nov 2006 : Senior Manager : Electronic Resource / I – Centres for Tshwane
University of Technology. I was responsible for implementing and managing the 10 ERC and I-
Centres for the 8 different campuses of Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in Pretoria.
Aug 2003 – Dec 2004 : Rureco Consortium : Technical advisory capacity. Rureco is an ICT
company established to assist in the rural telecommunications license bid process. I was
consulting Limpopo Ya Rena and Mamela consortia. They also responded to the Universal
Service Access (USAL) license bids, for under-serviced rural areas.
April 2003 – July 2003 : Became involved with the company called BizAssist. They develop
on-line solutions for primarily SMMEs. Established the business of renting and renovating
business. This includes flats and houses. Business is now firmly established.
Nov 1999 – April 2003: Appointed as Senior Manager : Network Operations Center: Data
Networks in Telkom. I performed the following :
• Total staff compliment increased to 53.
• To consolidate ALL high-level support teams for data networks. This forms part of the
National Network Operations Model (NNOC) 3 tier model.
• To establish policies and systems to improve and monitor performance.
• to set up the Telkom / Vendor interface for all data networks with all vendors.
• Prepared Telkom to be audited for Cisco Gold Partner, and the audit was successful.
Prepared Telkom for the re-audit in 2001 for 4 Specialised areas of Gold Partnership, i.e.
IPTelephony, Voice Access, Network Management, and Security (PIX Firewalls).
• To develop a training development program for young students and new staff
• To ensure co-ordination and co-operation with other divisions

• To participate fully in the student development drives at senior level, and to provide
mentorship.
Sept 1996 – Nov 1999 : Appointed as Senior Manager : Systems Integration. I performed the
following functions :
• Manage and develop a team of 14 network system designers.
• Implement the Project Management and Solution design processes for pre-sales.
• Provide guidance and input on solution development for bids, tenders and RFPs
• Develop business plan and budget for the division
• Coordinated and inter-acted at senior level with product development, and product focus groups.
1994 - 1996 : Solution Design engineer in the Corporate Customer Division of Telkom. I
was responsible for developing solutions (mostly router-based network projects) for corporate
customers. I attended 8 weeks of training in Cisco network design. Achieved CCNP and
CCDP status. This involved understanding the inter-operability of networking protocols like
Ethernet, Token Ring, and the TCP/IP protocol suite. I utilized only the products offered by
Telkom such as Frame Relay, Diginet, ISDN, ATM, Voice (IN) solns, etc. Most of the work
involved Systems Integration.
I was also tasked to develop and implement the project management and the solution
development processes.
1993 - 1994 : Switching Planning engineer in the Switch Planning Division : I was
involved in the planning of Siemens EWSD and Alcatel telecommunication switch exchanges.
I also developed traffic forecasting models, and this was then used to dimension the switch
block of the exchanges.
1991 - 1993 : Worked as Development Engineer at the Regional Development Centre of
Telkom. I was involved in hardware, and embedded software design. Most projects were
interfacing and telecommunication development, by using micro-controllers.
4. DEVELOPED SKILLS/ABILITIES
4.1 Organizational :
• Project Management : This includes both working as a project manager and
establishing the Project Management Processes for the FIFA World Cup project.
• Systems Integration Processes : Established the Systems Engineering processes for
solution development from inception, testing, type approve, and solution delivery.
• Financial Management skills with emphasis on budget planning and control. Financial
ratios, and economic value added.
• Marketing and product development – closer involvement with Marketing because of the
SLA management information for customers from the NNOC.
• Operations Management : All aspects of Operations from technology handover to service
delivery systems, 24x7 surveillance, monitoring and control. Spares and SLA
management
• Vendor and Fault Management : Vendor negotiations, SLA between Telkom and the
vendors, testing, and training from the vendors.
• Telkoms Gold Partner Cisco Status : Prepared Telkom for the Cisco Gold Partner Audits
• Community Work : Assisted a friend icw setting up a container telephone facility in the
Kwandebele township, and developing strategies for the USAL consortia.

• Community/Social : I was the Chairman of the Cape Malay Cultural Society during the
period 1993 to 1996. We trained and develop 20 youths to revive the culture. Also
organized 2 overseas trips for 20 youths to perform in Malaysia and Indonesia, at major
cultural shows. This was all voluntary work.
4.2 Technical
Technical experience obtained in the following fields:
• WiFi, Internet and POS : WiFi solutions developed for Point of Sales customers.
Integration of POS services with WiFi and integration of Internet. POS with 2G/3G backup.
• The Internet : Experience developed in suggesting solutions for customers who required
WAN solutions with internet connectivity. Gained good theoretical knowledge on
internet/intranet such as Web development, internet access, security, voice over internet,
and Cisco MPLS VPNs.
• Inter-networking solution design : Experience gained in integrating router-based
networks into customer networks, by using Cisco products. This included LAN/WAN
design such as IPX/IP integration, Frame Relay, ISDN, and Diginet, routing and routed
protocols, etc. Obtained Cisco CCNP and CCDP qualification.
• Digital Telephone Switch Planning : Experience gained in traffic forecasting, modeling,
switch dimensioning, and “odagen” expansions, and general switch planning. IN network
and SS7 networks.
• Fixed/Mobile Convergence : Working on areas where mobile(GSM) operators
interconnect to Telkom’s fixed line infrastructure. The point of Interconnect is critical in
telecommunications business. Also working on synergies that can be obtained through
Telkom’s Cisco Gold partner status, and the mobile operators
• Property Building and Renovations : I have exposure to renovating and building
properties, which I acquired on a personal basis.
• Business Level Consultancy : This involves the blend of understanding the customer’s
business need, and developing a telecommunications solution (voice and/or data) to
satisfy the need.
4.4 Managerial Experiences :
I gained managerial and strategic experiences through the MBT studies in Holland, and EDP
studies at WITS, which concentrated on business administration, and in the work environment.
Practical experiece through the management of the 2010 World Cup ICT Infrastructure Project
and operated on CTO level for FastNet.
• Methods and Procedures : Setting up of Methods & Procedures for all the escalation
procedures, and Sale procedures for different products.
• Financial Management : Strictly controlling all facets of financing and budgeting for the
division. This includes working with vendor contracts, cost control, and budgeting for the
section. Sound knowledge and experience of Opex vs Capex.
• Leadership Exposure : When I was appointed as Head of Multimedia/Networking
Solutions, I developed strong leadership skills further because I had 14 network designers

to whom I had to give constant guidance on design philosophies, training, design tools,
etc. I developed strategies and business plans for the division. This was a challenge as it
was totally new area that Telkom was entering. Also lead the project management of the
ICT infrastructure for the 2010 World Cup Project, and provided leadership at Fastnet as
the CTO.
5. CAREER OBJECTIVES :
I would like a challenging position in any position that requires the above operational/strategic
management skills. This can be in the fields of data networking, operations and logistics,
Project Management, and consultancy. I would also prefer the position to contribute to the
advancement of community, social and economic progress of the country, and where I can use
my own initiative and skills to the fullest, as well as provide guidance and leadership to others.
