SUMMARY
Project Management Experience: Collaborated with a team of federal, state and industry partners on
developing nucleic acid assays, and designed quality controls to assess assay performance.
Extensive Communication Skills: Experience sharing scientific information in customer faced training,
presenting developments at internal seminars as well as external conferences, and lecturing at a community
college.
Expertise in Technical Writing and Record Keeping: Contributed writing to a technical consensus
guideline, tracked data for a proficiency testing program, and authored several peer-reviewed publications.
Experience in Regulatory Compliance: Developed quality control materials that evaluate assay performance
and evaluated laboratories that are regulated by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Extensive Research Expertise: Identified molecular analytes and platforms that can be implemented in
newborn screening programs and developed a gene expression system for gene therapy applications.
EXPERIENCE
Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Atlanta, GA
Postdoctoral Fellow 3/11-Present
• Project Management: Collaborated with Biogen Idec and state public health laboratories on implementing
a low cost molecular assays using dried blood spots samples.
• Research Expertise: Designed a nucleic acid techniques for newborn bloodspot screening with a team of
research scientists. Designed quality controls made from cultured adherent and suspended cell lines.
• Writing Technical Guideline: Summarized the development of reference materials in the Clinical
Laboratory and Standards Institute (CLSI document I/LA36), a consensus guidelines, for implementing severe
combined immunodeficiency (SCID) for usage within the healthcare community
• Data Tracking: Tracked data for a pilot proficiency testing program for domestic laboratories that do
population-based screening.
• Internal/External Presentations: Presented to the newborn screening community on the development
of reference materials for SCID. Also presented at internal seminar on the development of digital PCR assays.
• Customer Faced Communication: Trained 10 newborn screening programs on developing and validating
molecular assays for SCID and making quality control materials.
• Quality Management: Produced large quantities of quality control materials to assess assay
performance, and evaluated DNA extraction and real-time PCR protocols in CMS regulated laboratories.
• Highthroughput Production: Converted a manual method to an automated system which effectively
maximize assay output and minimized instrument downtime.
• Global Customer Assistance: Provided reference materials to domestic and international laboratories,
and customer support for assay development and validation.
