August 2013)
Characterized the nitrided layer to model and control the nitriding process
parameters for realizing the accurate process control. .
< Prepared samples by cutting, mounting, grinding, polishing and etching
pretreated steel rod.
< Determined the compound layer thickness and nitriding depth using
optical microscope.
< Performed microhardness test of samples and analyzed the data to
characterize nitrided layer.
< Performed optical emission spectrometer (OES) test to measure the
concentration of component elements in different depth of nitrided
samples.
< Determined the phase characterization of nitrided surface using X-ray
Diffraction analysis (XRD).
Stainless Blade Heat-treatment(Center for Heat Treating Excellence / WPI,
March 2013 - May 2013)
Provide failure analysis on the blade and determine an alternate way of
heat-treatment.
< Prepared samples and measured Rockwell hardness and Vickers microhardness
before heat-treatment.
< Heat-treatment by heating, quenching, and tempering the samples.
< Characterized by measuring Rockwell hardness and Vickers microhardness,
determined the micostructure using Optical microscope and scanning
electron microscope (SEM).
