As a social worker, I conducted family assessment meetings of those in crisis so determine if the facility was a proper fit for their child’s needs. If the child was accepted into the residential program, I recommended they be placed in a certain home with house parents that I supervised. I wrote a 20-30 page psychologically based CBT plan-of-care for each child under my supervision (case load of 25 children) for every adult on campus (1,000 acres) to follow and I provided CBT interventions. Children were placed in a residence with house parents who were surrogate parents to children during their placement. The family offered nurturing, love, support, structure, discipline, and guidance as the children learned healthy ways of relating in a functional family. Professionally sound, counseling services were offered to every child in care and included cognitive/behavioral therapy, equine assisted learning, equine assisted psychotherapy, play therapy, psycho educational groups, therapy groups, family counseling and family training. Accredited educational programs were available to meet the individual needs of the children and included a strategic blend of computer assisted and instructor lead classes, credit recovery opportunities, GED program, and competitive athletics.
