Facilities Engineering Manager & Plant Engineer 2013 – June 2019

Sustainability and efficiency champion, responsible for leading and managing all plant maintenance, new construction operations, facility systems and assets, team management, projects, budgets, health, safety, and environment (HSE) and additional plant compliance strategies and programs. Direct a large multi-disciplinary team of employees, consisting of custodial, facility, and technical maintenance personnel. Significant experience installing and utilizing a computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to track maintenance schedules and work orders, establishing priorities for maintenance based on the statuses of facilities, systems, and equipment. Lead industrial construction, expansion, and capital installation projects. Provide leadership and oversight over all project activities, including building Business case, budgets, labor allocation, project operations, and equipment coordination, as well as manage vendor procurement and subcontracting.

Key Achievements & Duties:

Developed efficiency-boosting process improvements and system enhancements within facility electrical systems, increasing the overall output efficiency of facility electrical systems by over 7%. Made similar enhancements and efficiency gains within both facility water and natural gas systems, helping reduce consumption and produce large cost savings.

Managed a wide variety of plant maintenance, new construction operations, facility systems and assets, team management, projects, budgets, and safety compliance. Directed a multi-disciplinary team of employees, consisting of custodial, facility, and technical maintenance personnel. Utilized CMMS to track maintenance schedules and work orders, establishing priorities for maintenance based on the statuses of facilities, systems, and equipment. Led industrial construction, expansion, and capital installation projects tasked with providing leadership and oversight over all project activities, including budgets, labor allocation, project operations, and equipment coordination, as well as managed vendor procurement and subcontracting. Additionally, served as a permanent member of the facility safety committee.

Key Achievements & Duties:

Configured and installed a new paperless CMMS that seamlessly managed work orders and projects across 3K+ different facility assets. The initial system integration was developed in 2013 and rolled-out in six months. In 2015 enhancements were made to the system, including adding inventory control for 6K+ spare and discrete parts withdrawals directly costed to assets. The 2015 maintenance budget was reduced by $100K with the new system producing substantial labor savings and reducing overtime and downtime.

Successfully installed a building wide Life Safety System in 2010 that was fully integrated into fire suppression systems and consumed over ten miles of conduit during the installation.

In January 2010, delivered critical emergency response upon detecting excessive roof deflection due to snow loading. Directed emergency repairs to stop any further deflection, while co-developing capital project plans for a $290K roof reinforcement project. The project was successfully completed in September 2010 under budget and ahead of schedule.

Completed a comprehensive energy audit with assistance from Iowa State University and Alliant energy, identifying $250K+ in energy conservation initiatives in 2011.

Installed a non-ballasted white roof on two roof sections, helping reject 30% of the suns radiant heat during the summer months.

Achieved ISO 9001 quality management certification in 2006 and began serving as the process owner for Plant Engineering and Device Calibration shortly after.

Installed building management system to control utilities consumption, saving $80K+ in annual utilities costs.

Upgraded the facility’s electrical distribution system and implemented a NFPA 72.E Arc, Flash, Blast safety program.

Developed and rolled-out extensive corporate computer room upgrades, including a new power service, UPS system, air-conditioning system, and floor.

Enhanced and streamlined the compressed facility-wide air systems, allowing the facility to run with just one 75HP air compressor instead of two.

Chief Industrial Engineer, Senior Industrial Engineer & Bait Factory Core Management Team

Designed and implemented a comprehensive cellular manufacturing system within the Power Bait Factory. This $1.3M project was completed in June 2000, three months early and under budget. The new manufacturing system increased capacity by 10%, decreased cycle time, decreased WIP, and generated an overall annual savings in excess of $500K.

Implemented a plant wide on-demand automated printing system for point-of-purchase and shipment labeling. Eliminated all warehouse locations for label consumables and reclaimed 50,000 square feet of warehouse floor space for manufacturing. Reduced stock-outs by 99% and reduced average label inventory levels, shrinkage losses due to spoilage, and obsolescence generating over $200K in annual savings.

Installed a new automated packaging assembly line that increased capacity by over 300% and saved $250K in annual material and labor costs.
