Summary

Mechanical Engineer with professional experience in designing electrical/mechanical and structural systems associated with satellites, underwater vehicles, commercial and military aircraft, and submarine missile guidance.

Professional Experience

The Boeing Company - 5301 Bolsa Avenue, Huntington Beach, Calif., 92647 - June 1990 to December 2018

Boeing Defense Systems - October 2011 to December 2018

Electrostatic Gyro Navigation Systems

– Provided engineering support to perform repair and maintenance for existing submarine inertial navigation systems.

Integrated Shipboard Systems - Fiber Optic Inertial Navigation Systems

- Prepared Design Disclosures for a prototype inertial navigation system. Converted solid models from I-DEAS to

CATIA V5. Documented release of mechanical hardware with ASME Y14.5, GD&T and eMATRIX Product Data

Management.

- Thermal Management Unit Trade Study – Defined a preliminary design and requirements to control the thermal

environment for a Fiber Optic Inertial Navigation System.

Shipboard Communication Systems - Fiber Optic Data Multiplex System

- Performed the mechanical design and generation of all the drawings associated with a Single-Direction Interface

Enclosure Assembly. Supported the Preliminary Design Review and the Critical Design Review meetings with the U.S.

Navy Customer.

Space & Intelligence Systems

Thermal Products Engineering - October 2009 to October 2011

- Designed thermal blankets for satellite payload/bus subsystems to mitigate exposure from EMI/Thermal environments.

Developed new designs using Pro-E (WF3/WF4) and release production drawings through PDM Link and Team-

Center. Supported reviews to release design concepts and production drawings.

Commercial Aircraft - May 2006 to October 2009

747-8 Intercontinental

- Supported design of structural components associated with Section 46 on the aircraft fuselage. Activities include

layout of structural component assemblies and release of production drawings utilizing CATIA V4 applications and

database.

747-8 Freighter

- Designed mechanical installation of hydraulic systems on right wing fixed trailing edge. Documentation for layout and

release of production drawings submitted using CATIA V5 applications and ENOVIA Product Data Management.

777 Wing Test Panels

- Performed structural analyses on segments of 777 wing test panels using Nastran and Patran software.

Integrated Defense Systems

Ageis Ballistic Missile Defense – March 2005 to May 2006

- Mechanical design and documentation of production hardware. Participated in design reviews with contractors.

Marine Systems – Advanced Information Systems - January 2004 to March 2005

- Managed general arrangements for components of a prototype system utilizing SolidWorks modeling interface.

Defined requirements to control function of mechanical components. Designed mechanical structures to assemble

components. Provided a technical interface to contractors of subsystems.

Integrated Defense Systems

MMIII Guidance Replacement Program – March 1994 to January 2004

~ Lead Mechanical Design - Missile Guidance System Control Assembly and Prototype Radiation Shielding.

Managed mechanical design of system electronic assembly and components from proposal through release of

production drawings. Retained nine years of experience with developing investment castings utilizing aluminum

A357 material and integral stainless steel tubing. Defined customer requirements and investigated alternative designs

for prototype assemblies of the electronic system and radiation shielding. Identified costs of mechanical hardware,

created schedules to achieve program objectives, and prepared reports for management and customer acceptance.

Participated in developing design concepts for new guidance systems. Initiated and completed mechanical testing to

certify compliance for flight. Applied CATIA V5 and I-DEAS Solid Modeling techniques to optimize design of

mechanical hardware and documented release of drawings with ASME Y14.5, GD&T and eMATRIX Product Data

Management.

Research and Development - June 1990 to March 1994

Guidance Positioning Systems - Digital Quartz Inertial Measuring Unit

~ Conducted field experimentation to weld aluminum chassis containing assembled electronic guidance systems for

applications within high vacuum environments. Developed a schedule to effect structural and hermetic welds within

the aluminum housings with LASER energy as a heat source.

Reentry Body Inertial Measuring Unit

~ Supported proposal activities with design and testing an isolated platform to stabilize electrical components for

guidance and control. Prepared the mechanical section of the proposal to include features for design and packaging

of the electrical system and results obtained from testing the prototype isolated platform when subjected to

environments of vibration and shock.

Space Based Cryocooler

~ Created a prototype mechanical assembly to isolate a cryocooler when subjected to environments with variations in

vibration, shock, and temperature. Manufactured tooling to support testing of this prototype assembly.

Brilliant Pebble Deployment Concept

~ Supported proposal activities with the design of a gunrail delivery system for ejecting Brilliant Pebbles from an

Atlas IIAS launch vehicle

Small ICBM Program - Thermal Engineering

~ Simulated behavior of a thermal cooling system with finite difference programming techniques. Predicted

performance of a vapor-compression cycle with refrigerant R-12 as a working fluid. Participated in the design of

cooling system components.
