ACHIEVEMENTS

)At DuPont I was successful in reducing costs, improving safety, and increasing production at several of the contracting firms. This led to less downtime, improved relations with the contracting firms, and increased revenues and profits. Additionally, I was able to identify several opportunities for production at the contracting firms that assisted DuPont with meeting customer requirements and debottlenecking production.

)In the Soy Protein Concentrate Department I have been working on various initiatives to improve rate and on stream time (or OST) for the process. One project that is currently in progress is focusing on OST revolves around the vent lines on the process Desolventizers. This project is expected to improve OST by 5 to 10% annually, adding significant capacity to the production facility.

)At Solae, LLC like many other companies consumption of public utilities can be costly. One project at Solae has involved the completion of an Ultra Filtration / Reverse Osmosis installation meant to reduce consumption of city water by 150K to 200K gallons a day and waste water to the city by ~150K gallons a day, for an estimated annual savings of $400K.

)Nuisance alarms are a problem at many plants and they were at Eli Lilly. I investigated the 12000 alarms that were occurring monthly in the department. Through a series of initiatives, I was able to identify those alarms that were a nuisance and reduce the number of alarms occurring to ~2400 a month. This had an approximate savings to Eli Lilly of ~$100K.

)The last couple of years at Eli Lilly, the facility became Production Constrained with regards to the Tylosin Production. I performed Time Studies of the various operations, reviewed many of the equipment specifications, did comparisons on the yield of various Fermentors. The results of these actions were: a Best Practices Procedure was created (based on the shift with the least amount of down time), identification of equipment that had been improperly repaired in the past (thus a loss in its productivity), and identified that various Fermentors required modifications (in order to match those that were high yield Fermentors). This had a combined productivity increase and cost reduction of approximately $1MM.

)When I first started at Eli Lilly one project that was a constant safety issue was installation of Probe Trees into the Fermentors. Employees had cracked ribs and strained backs as a result of installing the existing Probe Trees. The Probe Trees were approximately 21’ and weighed in at about 20 lbs. I shortened the length of the Probe Tree and modified the connections. I tested this on several Fermentor runs and asked various Operators to try using the new Probe Tree. The feedback from Operations was that they were extremely happy with the results. This had minimal impact to costs or productivity directly, though Eli Lilly Operators were able to install the probe trees more quickly and the company did avoid any loss time incidents as a result of the project. Potential savings from lost time incident was approximately, ~$5K to $10K.
