Description: AstraZeneca(formerly MedImmune Vaccines) is a leading biotechnology company focused on researching, developing and commercializing products to prevent or treat infectious disease, autoimmune disease and cancer. MedImmune actively markets four products, Synagis(palivizumab), Ethyol(amifostine), FluMist(Influenza Virus Vaccine Live, Intranasal), and CytoGam(cytomegalovirus immune globulin intravenous (human)). At MedImmune I manufactured and packaged FluMist(FluMist Quadrivalent),a nasal-spray flu vaccine that helps protect from the flu(influenza). It is a flu vaccine that is sprayed into the nose and starts working in the nose, where the flu typically starts. It is used in children, adolescents, and adults ages 2 through 49 and is an alternative to the flu shot. Also, at MedImmune/Astrazeneca it was imperative that we followed GMPs, GDPs, and SOPs.

Description: I served as a paid research assistant for Dr.Vanderklein,a Biology professor. My initial exposure to research, the objective was to investigate insect herbivory on Japanese Knotweed(Fallopia Japonica). The plant samples were prepared by making powders, using technical equipment. Then samples were examinated and analyzed. This experience further developed my level of perseverance. For example, when using the technical equipment, sometimes it would malfunction. When this happened, repairs had to be made, or the equipment replaced. Moreover,this experience taught me how to communicate with a professional researcher.

Dr. Dirk Vanderklein ( MSU Department of Biology and Molecular Biology)- Growing Catnip, Alfalfa, Grass (Fall 2009)
Description: I was employed by Dr.Vanderklein, as a research assistant in 2008. A year later, I was commissioned to conduct a different research project with him in 2009-2010. A colleague and I conducted experiments growing catnip, alfalfa, and grass in different growth mediums. A certain company wanted to construct a catnip garden for cats using "soil moist", a water- absorbing crystal medium. It was concluded that natural soil was the best growth medium, and
"soil moist" was not a good growth medium.
Dr. Jim Dyer ( MSU Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry)- Cloning of the Cryptochrome 1 Gene of a Sunflower (Spring 2011, Experimental Biochemistry II) Description: In Experimental Biochemistry II our class studied the "Cloning of the Cryptochrome 1 Gene of a Sunflower", an original research project by our professor Dr. Dyer. Since it was his original research project, it was counted as student research. The project was one of the most difficult I have researched. Students obtained the amino acid sequence and the DNA sequence, and then designed primers to amplify the sequence using PCR. 6. Professional Memberships:
