Resume:

Jeff S

Senior SQL Dev/ C VBA .NET

Summary

Expertise as a Sql developer/computer programmer built upon a base of undergraduate training in Computer Science and Economics augmented by graduate training in Computer Science with a specialization in software.

Over 20 Years of software development life cycle experience in Software Design, Development and Implementation of SQL.

Extensive experience in writing SQL Queries, Stored procedures, Functions, Database Triggers.

Very strong in Stored Procedures.

Improve the performance of slow SQL queries by implementing proper Index.

Have worked with VBA in both Word and Excel and have created numerous Excel AddIns. I have also worked with Excel macros. My work with VBA has included processing an XML file as an ADODB recordset that was read to generically display a properly formatted spreadsheet with report headings and subtotals along with the field values from that recordset, and also provided the option to generate a generic Pivot Table.

Have participated in comprehensive in-house training courses in Visual Basic 6.0 as well as Visual Basic.Net and have developed numerous Visual Basic and Visual Basic.Net applications.

Graduate schooling included a course in Database Systems, in which I learned about relational databases, database design, database programming, and worked with SQL. I have used SQL (in DB2, in Access, and in SQL Server) interactively, embedded within RPG programs, in SQL stored procedures, triggers and functions, in Visual Basic 6, Visual Basic.Net and in Visual Basic for Applications (Word and Excel) programs.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

SQL Server. s SQL, DB2, Access, Crystal Reports

Programming

Languages

Visual Basic 6.0, Visual Basic.Net, Visual Basic for Applications (Excel, Word)

C, C++

I have learned C and C++ in college and graduate school. If you would please review my LinkedIn profile, you can see the reference that the instructor who first introduced me to C and three other programming languages, Mr. John Heartfield, wrote: “My course was a challenging one where students needed to understand the principles and applications of four programming languages in one semester. In order to receive his excellent grade, Jeffrey had to demonstrate superior talent at programming and concentration. Any employer would be fortunate to have Jeffrey as a member of the team.”

In addition, in my position at F. Logic, I worked with C in the context of designing stored procedures.

Asp.Net, HTML, JavaScript

I have also participated in comprehensive in-house training courses in Asp.Net, HTML and JavaScript, and have worked with them in the context of CGI programming in a client/server environment.

Improved the performance of slow SQL dynamic query by creating a stored procedure: A VBA project had been executing a dynamic SQL statement that ran at least eight hours without completing. I told my manager that I thought the performance might be improved by creating a stored procedure to retrieve the data. My manager rejected that solution, saying that he didn’t want a stored procedure created. My manager was out sick one day, and told me to try to resolve the problem. After having attempted to trace the statement’s execution via the iSeries’ Operations Navigator without having gained any insight, I consulted with some of my coworkers and a superior and concluded that the statement was waiting indefinitely for sufficient resources to be run. I finally created a stored procedure. My assessment had been correct: The stored procedure completed within a minute or two, as opposed to the seemingly infinite loop of the dynamic SQL statement. When my manager returned the next day, he agreed that all future queries over large files should be created as stored procedures.
