Professional Experience

Production and Safety Manager, Site EH&S Manager - 08/2014 to Current

Stella-Jones Corporations - Memphis, TN Processing Facility (Stella-Jones is a billion dollar US manufacturing company providing logs/lumbar, utility poles, railroad ties, and specialty wood chemical processing)

Reporting directly to the plant manager, provide top level EH&S functions and production management support, for on-site creosote and crude coal tar refinery operations. Facility achieved record profits, during four consecutive years, through modernization of standard operating procedures, controlling procedural drift, restructuring staff, and creating the required teamwork based culture. Four year Zero OSHA Recordable injuries for employees and contractors. Facility was recognized by The American Coke and Coal Institute with awards for safety excellence during 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Responsibilities include: insuring adherence to the extensive regulatory requirements of EPA, OSHA, DOT, FRA, Health Department, POTW and Coast Guard. Also required are, maintaining Prevention and Response Plans: FRP, SPCC, SWPPP, RCRA, and Coast Guard specific response/security plan. Position includes responsible for all environmental permits and correspondence (Waste Water Pre-treatment, County Air Permit, TRI, NPDES, Hazwaste Reporting, EPA Pesticide, and TIER II). Completed five successful years as free of violations in this highly regulated industry.

Oversee the daily delivery and processing for trucking, rail car, river barge & demurrage. Mitigate and monitor minor spill avoidance, clean-up and required documentation functions. Provide Project Management of hazardous waste removal and remediation projects. Removed over 8 million pounds of hazardous waste from the facility, while negotiating disposal costs with vendors. Other functions include: supporting waste water treatment operations, regular reporting to support day to day operations and home office, scheduling, and various special projects in support of the plant manager, Engineering, and HR. Adopted a “Lead by example” relationship with employees, and have received or provided training and proficiency achievements to improve quality & safety.

Project management of hazardous waste removal and remediation. Coordinated large scale capital projects which included: decommissioning and replacing 500,000-gallon liquid storage tanks and construction of improved waste water treatment systems. Responsible for contractors and engineers, pipe fitters, concrete foundations, electrical, pneumatic, metal fabrication, and regulatory required systems testing and start-up procedures. Maintained large quantity hazardous waste generator status with EPA for four years related to creosote tank sludge removal. Have received training in all job functions at the facility, including laboratory quality analysis. Other daily functions include supporting operations, training, observations, table top discussion, drills, and response plans.

Production Supervisor – (Warehouse / Distribution) - 08/2013 to 04/2014

New Breed Inc., Disney Product Distribution - Memphis, TN

Large warehouse pick and pack operations for direct to consumer shipping facility. Functions included: labor scheduling, hiring, training, observations, accident investigation and reporting, and payroll for 30 to 40 employees. Provided inventory control through utilizing Warehouse Management Systems and manually verifying inventory and locations. Oversaw documentation and monitoring of high value merchandise area. Successfully developed powered equipment program which assisted in safety training, improved efficiency, and enhanced tracking of damaged equipment. Assisted vice president of operations in process mapping various areas, to find improvements in operations. Implemented employee recognition programs for meeting production goals.
