Prior to my time at University of Maryland I worked for the US Fish and Wildlife Service and with the US Geological Survey. Worked at a remote pink salmon hatchery to perform a variety of hatchery duties, including: rearing, outmigration, broodstock collection, eggtake, and incubation, as well as hatchery and equipment maintenance. Collected influent and effluent water samples to test for total suspended solids and settleable solids. Sampled fish mortality and checked water quality (pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature) regularly.

CONTAMINANTS BIOLOGIST

Prepared and analyzed soil samples for lead concentration and created an ECDMS catalog. Conducted collection, necropsy and otolith extraction of brown bullhead for a liver tumor study. Collected hatchery brood stock and eggs for American Shad. Assisted in submerged aquatic vegetation surveys for the Poplar Island restoration project. Assisted with various wildlife management and monitoring projects.

Worked as a member of a team to conduct a comprehensive fish health assessment in the Great Lakes Basin, at several Areas of Concern. Collected water samples from various local study sites and performed extractions on these samples. Extracted blood samples for genetic toxicity and plasma hormone assays. Assisted with a mesocosm experiment investigating hormone and pesticide exposure on early life stage smallmouth bass. Assisted with a hormone exposure pond study by helping to drain the pond, collect the fish, and perform necropsies.
