DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

CIRCULATING NURSE:

Can circulate for all major and minor cases

Receiving the patient with full endorsement

Checking the validity of the patient’s consent

Position and secure the patient for anesthesia and surgery

Diathermy, suction and light and keeping all equipment arranged

Sponge and instrument counts are verified with the scrub nurse

Secure and transfer the patient to the recovery room

Clean the theatre, checking instruments and sending for autoclave SCRUB NURSE:

Responsible for maintaining the integrity, safety and efficiency of the sterile field throughout the operations

Get sterile supplied and instruments where the following skills were developed. Opening a sterile pack

Dropping sterile supplies onto the sterile field

Pouring sterile solutions.

Assisting in gowning and gloving of sterile team

Giving the anticipated instruments, sutures and sponges to the surgeons through the right sterile technique.

Keeping accurate counting of sponges and instruments.

Reminding the surgeons of whatever instruments or sponges is still inside the site before closing or suturing being done.

Washing of all the instruments used in the operation. RECOVERY ROOM:

Giving detailed endorsement to nurse from other departments regarding the patient’s post- operative orders, procedures performed, anesthetics used and other measures for the patient continuity of care and early recovery.

RESPONSIBILITY ENTRUSTED – OPERATION THEATRE:

Identifying the patient correctly.

Identification of drugs and checking of the expiry date of the drugs.

Administering pre medications according to doctor’s order.

Preparation of the operation theatre and arrange the instruments according to the order of use on the sterile trolley.

Preparation of Boyle’s machine.

Reception of the patients from pre-operative ward.

Preparation of the patient from physically and mentally for operation.

Check the apparatus and see that is in working condition.

Scrubbing, Gowning, and Gloving.

Assisting the Surgeon and Anesthesiologist.

Circulating Nurse.

Intra operating monitoring the patient.

Count the instruments before and after surgery.

Cleaning and sterilization of instruments.

Fogging of the operation theatre.

Maintaining good nurse patient relationship.

Administering emergency medications.

Maintaining of Narcotics as per JCIA protocol.
