Project Administrator on BHP Billiton’s R 1 Billion, M14 furnace execution project in Meyerton. At R 1 Billion, the M14 Project is currently the largest investment in a Manganese furnace in SA and perhaps the world. The last time a large furnace was built in South Africa was in 1978.

I was the Project Administrator on BHP Billiton’s, R 18 Million demolition & rehabilitation project. BHP Billiton Manganese made a decision to cease the production of Silico Manganese at its Metalloys smelting. A project was therefore required to manage the demolition and rehabilitation of South Plant. The project consisted of three phases, the first an application process to the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD), the second was salvaging, decontamination and demolition of the South Plant structure and the final phase was the temporary rehabilitation of the South Plant site by levelling, capping and grassing, which acted as the Target KPI value. The project was regarded a compliance project. Demolition and temporary rehabilitation of South Plant created land for future development.
