Management Work History:
*/**** – 12/2018 – Transaction Tax Billing, Research and Planning, Verizon Communications, Inc.
I am the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a portion of Verizon’s many billing systems. I ensure Verizon is complying with all Transaction Tax legal requirements by working across organizations to accurately capture state and local tax rates, to provide tax rules as they relate to Verizon’s products and service(s) offerings, to analyze billing data and correct errors. I represent Transaction Tax for all of Verizon’s offers including FiOS TV, voice and data. I also represent Tax in major billing migration projects. Billing systems are migrated to faster, more efficient systems in an effort to save Verizon time and money. I supervise two first-level management employees that support the effort to keep billing systems updated with correct information. I am a tenacious tax professional with extensive full project life cycle experience of finance systems. I have proven my ability to communicate well amongst my Transaction Tax counterparts such as Compliance, Audits and Research as well as technical teams outside the organization.
1/2002 – 1/2005 – Tax Systems Manager, Verizon Communications, Inc.
I was part of a team that successfully developed, and later maintained, a mechanized process to be used for Tax Compliance. I developed and maintained a professional relationship with the external vendor used for compliance, TaxSolver (a.k.a. ATX). I gathered and presented business requirements related to Verizon’s complex tax returns as well as General Ledger reconciliation requirements that were added to the software after initial rollout. I was responsible for uploading billing reports of many formats and General Ledger reports into a ‘standard landing pad’ each month for for tax return preparations and reconciliations.
1/1984 – 1/2002 – Various Positions in Tax and Finance – AT&T, Inc.
I began my career with AT&T in the Transaction Tax Compliance organization preparing simple tax returns and related reconciliations. I was later promoted and prepared complex tax returns and reconciliations while overseeing and approving the work of first-level professionals. I moved to Transaction Tax Audit for a short period before moving out of Tax completely into Accounting. It was here that I was responsible for the analysis of several lines on AT&T’s balance sheet and income statement. In the late 90’s I moved to the Consumer Billing organization to do something totally different. I was a Business Analyst and I prepared business requirements. I communicated those requirements to various IT organizations to ensure accurate and complete billing of AT&T’s consumer accounts. More information about any/all of these positions will be provided upon request.
