System parameter diagnostic maintance for railway equipment (traction motor) – 4 months
Internship at Alstom, Bangalore: Dec 2016 to Feb 2017 The condition based maintance (also called predictive maintenance) requires the diagnostic tool to determine when the significant insulation problem of traction motor will occur. This tool helps to predict failure rate and end of life of the traction motor.
Part -1: (at ALSTOM)
The electrical & mechanical failures of traction motors were studied. The electrical failure includes the winding and the insulation failures.. The mechanical failure arises due to vibration, bearing, gear failure and looseness of components. From the above analysis, the electrical and mechanical losses were calculated.
Part – 2: (at College – March to April-2017)
From all losses, total failure was calculated. From the values, mean time to failure (MTF) was arrived. Using MTF, the failure rate and year of failure of traction motor were calculated.

Automatic Metro Train (prototype) - 3 months
Driver less trains are equipped with a control system, which is programmed to make them following a specific path. Stations on such a path, timings of the train and distances between stations are all predefined. Messages are automatically generated and announced to the passengers. The development process of a prototype for a driver-less train implemented using a micro process (8086). Simulation for the system's circuits is done with the aid of Proteus software. The hardware circuits, which are built on printed circuit boards (PCB) are interfaced with actuators and sensors for automation purposes. The hardware is assembled in a toy-like prototype train.
