Job Description

Perform multiple procedures in a single day, ranging from simple outpatient treatments to complex brain surgeries using a pedal- operated microscope for detailed work

Use surgery to relieve hydrocephalus, the abnormal build-up of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain; focus on the correction of deformities and treatment of diseases of the spinal cord such as degenerative spine disorder and scoliosis Interpret results of diagnostic tests such as magnetic resonance imaging, CT scans and PET scans to diagnose patients; study the medical history of their patients, including reports compiled by other physicians Meet with patients and their families in order to discuss and explain planned surgical procedures, highlighting the benefits of the procedure as well as the risks involved

Work with faculty across the Neuroscience service line to provide clinical Neurosurgical services, oversee neurosurgical residents on functional rotation and to provide clinical and non-clinical instruction to residents and medical students Guide patients and relatives after the procedure on methods of postoperative care including everything from rehabilitation, nutritional advice and general care information

Responsibly look after unscheduled surgeries and consultations with other medial departments such as the emergency room Decide and schedule the surgical procedure along with nurses, an anaesthesiologist and everyone else needed to make an operation a success

Perform surgery on the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves to remove tumors, relieve chronic pain and treat wounds, vascular disorders, birth defects, infections and diseases such as Parkinson's and Epilepsy Education
