Job Description and Duties
The general duties involve the provision of assistance to students under the guidance of academic members of staff.
Must arrive promptly at the allotted time.
Except when demonstrating to project students, demonstrators must be familiar with the theoretical concepts of the experiments, which they supervise, and the techniques and methods to be employed. It is particularly important that all of the safety precautions required are thoroughly understood.
Must ensure that students follow the general safety regulations for the laboratory and any specific precautions for each experiment.
Must ensure that students clear away their materials and apparatus at the end of each practical session, following the correct disposal procedures if necessary.
Must co-operate with the course organizer to ensure that the class is unsupervised at any time.
Must know what to do in the event of an accident or emergency.
Should the fire alarm sound, demonstrators must ensure that the students switch off all services and equipment immediately and that, so far as possible, they leave by the emergency exits. This leaves corridors free for other personnel to use.
