Seasoned engineering professional seeks engineering lab position to utilize my analytical skills in product development/bring-up/ debug/Sustaining/Testing and lab maintenance, whatever it takes. I have the ability to quickly learn new technologies, utilize tools and be- come proficient in a short time. By using out of the box thinking, drive and determination, I help to make ideas become reality. Core strengths are:
Debug from system to component level
System, PCB or component RF and digital test-
ing
Ability to handle many tasks and deliver on
time
Teaching team members
Improvising
Designing and building test fixtures
Space management
Test equip: Proficient with all types of test equipment including but not limited to: oscilloscopes, signal generators, logic and spectrum ana- lyzers, VNA’s, PSU’s and DMM’s. I can use the following shop tools and more: drill presses, brakes, band saws and hand tools. OS’s: Knowledgeable using Microsoft Windows, MACOS, UNIX/LINUX along with their tools. Scripting: Past programming and knowledge with PERL, C, TeraTerm scripting language, UNIX shells and HTML Software: Know how to use Oracle, SAP and Agile business software. Can use PCAD-2001, Solid-Works and Cadence CAD tools. MS Outlook, Word, Excel, VISIO, OMNIGraffle
Apple Inc. 10/2009 – 04/2019
RF Lab Manager/Technician
Built, expanded, maintained and supported RF compliance and certification test labs for all Apple products. This included but not limited to: added space in new and existing buildings. Coordinated equipment maintenance, repair and upgrades. Maintained network. Ordered equipment, components and tools as needed for team. Anything in the lab needing attention, I took care of.
Implemented an RFID equipment tracking system to track $225M+ in capital assets, in RF labs. Shortened audit from 3 months to 4 days
Coordinated 5 expansion projects to increased team space from 3000 sqft 20000+. This was across 4 buildings and involved different types of RF chambers used for testing. I worked with multiple lab teams, construction contractors and our venders on the projects from start to finish.
Created extra space with imaginative ideas e.g. added vinyl to shield room walls to expand bring-up of all facial recognition devices to all shield rooms. This allowed every team in Apple’s wireless division to implement the vinyl process increasing space from 3 safe rooms to 44 shield rooms. This increased productivity significantly.
Performed Radiated Spurious Emissions (RSE) tests on iPhone’s. Temperature/humidity tests on iPhone4 and original iPad.
Leveraged and modified existing robotic test system for use in RSE test environment
Wrote Perl SW to automate above temperature/humidity tests ran on Watlow controller
Setup and maintained lab consumable area
Used creativity to assist engineers with space as new equipment arrived or test scenarios changed, at the same time complying with Apple’s needs and city code requirements
Tracked and ensured all test equipment were on hand, operational and calibrated
Team I supported grew from less than 25 to over 125 people
Used working relationships to get things done and keep the lab operational behind the scenes Juniper Networks 04/2007 – 09/2009
DVT Engineer
Helped set lab up for Juniper’s initial, rack mount, Ethernet switch. The EX8X00 series Ethernet switches.
Performed board level DVT’s and wrote reports on EX8X00 series switch PCB’s. The measurements included: reset sequences, power supply DC and AC levels at source and destination, current, clock accuracy and levels, JunOS and Diag environment verification.
Executed power supply DVT’s and wrote reports, these tests included: current measurements, line and load regulation, load sharing, dy- namic load regulation, efficiency, over temperature and over voltage testing.
Learned IEEE optic testing process for fiber optic transceivers using Keysight 86100C DCA. Wrote, executed and reported DVT proce- dures. Tests included: Eye mask, extinction ratio, receiver sensitivity and transmitter power.
Executed and generated DVT reports for thermal profile tests on 1U switch
Designed and built test jigs for PCB’s
Wrote scripts to perform above tasks and others
Assisted engineering with PCB and system bring-ups, test setups, performed rework as needed, whatever else required by the team
Wrote easy to use MS excel spread sheet used to track all development systems and PCB’s Sony Computer Entertainment America 12/2005 – 04/2007 Hardware Technician
Debugged PlayStation3, 2, PSP and their software development kits for Game developers
Did special projects; battery test jig for PSP, voltage checkers, eject jigs. These jigs saved time in debugging for all staff members
Trained new staff members
Did all rework
Engineering Lab Professional
Skills
Professional Experience
Intel Corporation 05/2005 – 12/2005
Contract Technician
Prepared unusable lab for XEON dual core processor verification lab
Worked with Intel Lab manager to maintain lab and implemented Intel lab maintenance policies
Repaired failed PCB’s to create support inventory for XEON test beds
Wrote inventory system using MS Excel, to track boards, silicon, and mechanical components for systems Acuity Technologies 11/2003 – 04/2005
Design Engineer
Setup and maintained lab for small start-up doing DARPA projects
Learned then used PCAD-2001 ECAD tool to enter schematics and do PCB layouts. Then learned and used Solid-Works MCAD tool to build housings for our PCB’s.
Worked with venders to build all PCB fabs. Purchased all components, built all PCB assemblies and assisted in bring-up.
Helped to create, then maintained company web site using Dreamweaver SW Ciena Corporation 06/2000 – 09/2003
Lab Engineer
Recruited by manager I worked for in previous positions at Sun Microsystems
Lead, trained and supervised 5 staff members in ISO9000/9001 lab that housed 100 SONET switch systems used for SW verification testing
