During the past thirty months, I have been a Relationship Manager for Heartland Payment Systems. In this position, I generated over $500,000 in new margin for Heartland which translates to approximately $100,000,000 in credit card volume processed. This has earned me the distinction of becoming vested and owning my residual income for as long as the clients remain with Heartland! Other recognition includes achieving the #3 newcomer in my Division during my initial 9 months while earning and maintaining Diamond status for much of my tenure with the company.

Prior to selling in 2007, I started and operated Ace Discount Liquors & Wine, an upscale, retail liquor business from scratch. Beginning in 1992, without any previous business ownership or industry experience, I grew it from a single unit to 3 units within 9 years. Over the years, I was responsible for securing the state issued liquor licensing rights, the annual renewals, IRS and state tax registrations, tax returns, payments for sales and payroll taxes, as well as federal and state business regulations compliance. I handled site selection, lease negotiations, space planning and design, as well as overseeing the architectural plans and build out for each location, including the FF&E, security and phone systems. I arranged, secured and negotiated terms and conditions for over $2,000,000 in debt financing for our growth and daily operations. Working with agency and media partners, I created unique marketing programs and advertising campaigns utilizing outdoor, print, writing a monthly column for a local publication, event sponsorship and electronic and digital media, including the building of a corporate website which helped generate annual revenues that averaged $3.5 mm. I was responsible for merchandising, pricing strategies, cash controls, policies and procedures that provided margins, profitability and cash flow higher than industry norms. I selected, implemented and suggested insightful improvements that were incorporated by our industry vendor for a POS system that helped me manage a $500K average inventory that turned at least 5x per year with less than 1% shrink. I also conducted due diligence on potential acquisitions. However, what I am most proud of is the hiring, training and developing a staff of 25 people. I implemented a best practices policy and procedures program that was instrumental in creating a business that was second to none in customer service. As a result, my stores were recognized by Indianapolis Monthly Magazine in 2006 as THE BEST LIQUOR STORES in INDY. Subsequently, I entered the restaurant business as a unit owner/operator of W.g. Grinders, a franchise sandwich shop, which under my leadership, sales and profitability increased by 25% in a few short months. Most recently, I have served as an adjunct at The Art/Culinary Institute of Indianapolis where I have taught business related courses to undergraduate culinary and creative art students in marketing, entrepreneurship, leadership and financial management.

While I have been a business owner in the retail beer, wine, and spirits, as well as food and beverage industries for most of my career, I have developed a well-rounded, transferable skill set that is not only sales and marketing driven, but administratively and fiscally sound, as well.
