Health Care Service Corporation (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois), Chicago August 2010 to present

Executive Director, Treasury & Corporate Finance (2014-present) promoted from Senior Director, Treasury (2010-2014)

Created overall department strategy, execution and management of parent & subsidiary treasury and corporate finance function with a staff of 15 professionals.

Strategically manage $120 billion in annual cash flows and successfully reduced daily working capital needs by over 90%. Guide the related month end accounting and reporting.

Established and manage new FP&A process (short-term and long-term forecast across multiple business lines) for corporate cash flows and risk-based capital; including monthly and quarterly variance attribution analysis.

Created, implemented and manage the corporate capital structure using various models including WACC, CAPM, ROI, Discounted Cash Flow, successfully able to optimize/reduce the cost of capital.

Responsible for raising and structuring external capital including public/private bonds, secured/unsecured bank debt and related hedging programs.

Key Contributions:

Since 2010, completely transformed my Treasury Department (people, process and technology) from an internal-focused administrative and payment processing team to a world class department.

Team now consists of project managing consultants who provide finance and treasury expertise across all departments

Reduced department operating costs by nearly 50% since 2010 through reorganization and outsourcing while implementing new IT systems (ERP and treasury workstation).

Leveraged the new workstation using innovative data gathering and reporting techniques that our vendor was able to integrate into their platform and offer to other clients.

Senior Vice President (2008-2010):

Delivered credit and capital markets solutions in the insurance and general middle market space in Illinois

Cross-selling bank’s fee-based services and maintaining acceptable portfolio credit quality.

Key Contributions:

Developed sophisticated excel-based forecast models, including DCF/WACC, to structure, price and recommend the appropriate capital market instrument.

Delivered multiple new customers with over $50MM in loan commitments, $750K in net interest income, and over $1MM of fee income far exceeding individual goals.

First Vice President (2005-07):
