Literature Review
Dissertation on “Effect of surfactants and their role in intercalation in Manganese Dioxide” submitted to Christ University, Bangalore in partial fulfillment of the Degree of Master of Philosophy in Chemistry. This thesis involved the study of effect of surface active agents (surfactants i.e cationic, anionic, and neutral and zwitter ion) and their role in alkali metal intercalation in electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD). EMD has synthesized from various methods such as precipitation, combustion and sol-gel method, with suitable modifications all the prepared samples of EMD were characterized by powder XRD and galvanostatic analysis. The samples which have shown sharp crystalline peak with suitable 2θ values in XRD analysis were taken for galvanostatic study. In this analysis the sample which has shown broad peak with reduction potential value, has been considered as the best EMD for further analysis (EMD prepared from precipitation method). The electrochemical behavior of the prepared EMD has been improve by adding various surface active agents such as cationic (CTAB & Triethyl amine), anionic surfactant (SLS & butyric acid), neutral surfactant (IPA & amyl alcohol) and zwitter ionic surfactant (glycine). All the prepared samples of EMD with surfactants were characterized by Cyclic voltammetry analysis and there structural changes has been studied by powder XRD analysis. Then the role of intercalation of guest species (alkali metal ion) has been studied and characterized by CV and FTIR analysis. From all the characterization studies the formation of γ-MnO2 has been concluded.
Another research paper was on "A review on Biobased Thermosets from vegetable oils. Synthesis, characterization and properties". Submitted to North Orissa University in partial fulfillment of the Degree of Master Of Science in Chemistry. The purpose of this research was to develop new biobased thermosetting polymers from vegetable oils as renewable resources. Polymers have become a major part of our economy as they make their way into the market of virtually every plastic product. Vegitable oil polymers can be produced using one of three routes: direct polymerization, functionalization and chemical transformation. Most polymers produced today are petroleum based, vegetable oil based polymers are gaining attraction mainly because of the eco-friendly nature of vegetable oil polymers.
