Emergency Room Manager
May 2009 to March 2012
40 hours weekly
Job Duties:
I was responsible for the daily operation of a 26 bed, Level III Trauma Center. I was responsible for the direct supervision of 63 Nurses, EMT's and Unit Clerks who reported to me directly. For those direct reports, I was responsible for completing yearly evaluations using the Performance Feedback and Development tool. I was directly responsible for staffing/scheduling, payroll & providing comprehensive nursing care for the Emergency and Trauma patients, administering meds and assisting with procedures. I developed strong, professional relationships with the other departments within the hospital which were dysfunctional in the past. I pride myself in being a supportive manager to all of my staff while continuously encouraging and supporting their growth. Key Results:
• Successful in capturing over $600,000 of revenue for the Emergency Department resulting from lost charges. I achieved this successfully by developing a strong professional relationship with the hospital's coders and then together developing a process for identifying those charges and fixing them to capture the revenue.
• Developed and implemented a new process in the ED for solid communication with staff called Roll Call, as well as the implementation of "white boards" in the patient rooms for communication with patients and their families. This process has been a crucial factor in the solid increase in the ED's HCAHPS/patient satisfaction scores. Our scores improved from the 39th percentile to the 98th percentile.
• Consistently produce accurate and timely payroll in Lawson for all 63 of my direct reports.
• Responsible for ordering supplies and equipment for the ED from contracted vendors through the use of purchase requisitions.
• Trained in creating an annual budget for the Emergency Department as well as completing monthly budget variances if necessary.
