My name is Jurgens Smit-Matthee also known as JJ; I was born in Benoni, Gauteng on the 9th of July 1964. I have matriculated in 1982 and completed my Military Service in 1985. I’ve obtained a NQF 8 Certificate in Advance Labour Law in 2010. I have in total more than 30 years of vast work experience.

I started my career by taking up employment with the Department of Labour as a clerk in October 1985. I was employed by them for 15 years and resigned in May 2000 to pursue my career as a Labour Consultant with Delvenco. I held the position of Acting Assistant Regional Director on date of resignation.

My positions as consultant with Delvenco become redundant after 6 months and I gained employment as Regional Manager at Stats SA for their Census 2001 Population Count. This was only a fixed term contract for 6 months. I had a staff compliment of 2770 employees that ranged from HR Officers to Listers and my area of responsibility was the whole of Northern KZN from Richards Bay up to Nkandla.

I then took up employment with Function Foods – Richards Bay for a few months as Function Supervisor and later Venue Manager at Oasis Restaurant. In March 2002 I entered into a Partnership and took Management of the Oasis Restaurant over from Function Foods but sadly the Partnership dissolved in June 2003 where after I re-located back to Gauteng and took up employment with the National Bargaining Council for the Road Freight and Logistics Ind (NBCRFLI).

On November 16, 2003 and started to work for the NBCRFLI as an Agent in Gauteng and Richards Bay, I was employed by them for 12 Years and resigned from my position as a Senior Agent at their Durban Branch on May 30, 2015 to move back to Empangeni to assist with the care of my handicapped family members. I was also employed by Panorama Place Guesthouse from 11 July 2016 to 03 January 2018 as their General Manager.

I am currently operating as a freelance IR/HR Consultant/administrator by assisting various employers in different Industries e.g.: Hospitality, Emergency Services, Road Freight and Motor Ind. I am also part time employed by Yellowoods Bed and Breakfast as a manager since 12 March 2018.
