WORK EXPERIENCE

Company: Truworths

Job Title: Sales Associate

Duration: 2007 - 2010

Duties & Responsibilities: My duties as a sales associate at Truworths, was to assist customers in acquiring the garment they wanted, find out what type of style trends and fashions they were into and advise them on what would best compliment their personal style and figure. Customer service was an important role as a sales associate, the customer’s needs always came first. This helped me learn how to work and interact with different types of individuals and also understand, and deal with different personalities at a young age.

working the cash register, banking daily takings and also keeping the store’s image in good condition, was also part of the job description, through this I learned about brand promoting and how product display can increase sales and revenue.

Company: Exclusive Books Greenstone

Job title: Night Staff Supervisor

Duration: 2010 - 2019

Duties and responsibilities: As supervisor, it is my duty to oversee the rest of my colleagues and make sure everyone’s duties are being done sufficiently and affectively. I delegate work load and complete end of day admin after closing. Authorizing documents that can alter the daily takings of the branch is required of me, which means monitoring and overseeing all refunds, discounts and voids.

Displays and showcasing new book arrivals is an important part of the job, doing window dressing and displaying the books helps draw the customers eye and interest, ultimately generating more sales. Understanding sales and being aware of new releases and upcoming releases is essential as customers are aware of new authors and books through the media, so being updated and informed is important. Interacting with customers, assisting them in obtaining the book or product they want, whether it be sourcing the product from other branches or placing orders from local or international publishers/suppliers. I also do banking and record daily figures for the store.

SUMMARY OF WORK EXPERIENCE

I gained junior management exposure as a supervisor, as I could run the entire store on weekends, full day shifts (which are the busiest days out of the week) without the store manager, handling disgruntled customers and other crisis. I also learnt traits such as; time management, work delegation, team leading and training. Handling the finances of the store, in banking, reconciliation and handling of petty cash. I gained a lot of experience in customer care and service. Also attending to queries, follow ups and concluding customer and in store issues effectively.

In my time at Exclusive books, I have grown from being a cashier to being a supervisor. I have learnt how to work efficiently and calmly under pressure, how to delegate work load to individuals so they work effectively throughout the course of the day and be efficient in that task, and am able to get my colleagues to work collectively as a team.
