KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
I have cared for + 300 patients per shift diagnosed with a range of health challenges including chronic and acute as well as communicable and non-communicable diseases.
As a Registered General Nurse, I was responsible for managing the care of adults or elderly patients experiencing general medical conditions which required general assessments and related therapies and interventions.
I provided care primarily to adult patients before and after surgical procedures; and attend to those who were being treated with pharmaceuticals to manage illness.
Due to the broad range of medical conditions encountered as a Registered Nurse, I am well versed in large variety of health conditions. I was responsible to the Sister in Charge of my unit.
My specific duties and responsibilities included:-
Conducting an individualized patient assessment, prioritizing the data collection based on the adult or elderly patient’s immediate condition or needs within the timeframe specified by policies, procedures or protocols of the hospital and reprioritizing care accordingly.
Developing plans of cares that were individualized for the adult or elderly patients reflecting collaboration with other members of the healthcare team.
Performing appropriate treatments as ordered by the physician, in an accurate and timely manner.
Performing therapeutic nursing interventions as established by the individualized plan of care for the adult or elderly patient and his/her family.
Providing individualized patient/family education customized to the adult or elderly patient and his/her family.
Documenting patients’ assessment findings, physical/psychological responses to nursing intervention and progress towards problem resolution.
Initiating emergency resuscitative measures according to adult resuscitation protocols.
Maintaining confidentiality in matters related to patient, family and hospital staff.
Providing care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the adult or elderly patient’s and family’s diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights.
Reporting patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift.
Maintaining competence in discharging my duties.
In the course of the dispensation of my duties and responsibilities, I am familiar with and have handled several equipment.
As a psychiatric nursing student, I provided care to mentally ill and emotionally disturbed patients as part of a team implementing an overall psychiatric problem.
