Network Design and Operations:

o Created reports and implemented new sales and operations policies to identify voids in our transportation network. Worked with all facets of the organization to reduce deadhead miles from over 20% to 16%.

o Devised a way to track out-of-route miles by driver. Implemented and managed a program to track, monitor and account for these non-value-added miles. o Reengineered the power and trailer detention process, increasing detention revenues over 300%. Created and circulated reports to identify customers with additional detention opportunities. Identified customers with excessive amounts of free trailer and power time. o Formally defined how the organization defines driver layover. Built queries and reports to track layovers by location, customer and cause.

Inventory Management:

o Developed and introduced the “12-Step Inventory Management Process” for Universal. This involved a series of low-risk, low-investment, high-return procedures which introduced discipline and structure to the plant-level inventory management process. Select plants used these steps to increase turns by 40% and reduce inventories by over $1m. o Designed, documented, tested and rolled out an inventory planning tool. This tracked item level forecasted-to-actual sales and used min-max to compare availability with projected needs. o Served as an inventory management subject matter expert, assisting plants in point-specific solutions to their various inventory issues.

Purchasing Improvements:

o Designed, tested, and rolled out the interface to BuyMetrics, an integrated lumber purchasing system. This allowed our buyers to use the internet to determine material pricing and availability, as well as order product. This reduced purchasing expenses by at least $1m annually. o Created a series of Vendor Scorecards. These helped improve on-time deliveries by 7% and increased DPO by 3.5 days.

o Designed, tested and enhanced Universal’s vendor-facing EDI programs. o Worked with Universal’s vendors to identify further supply chain improvements and opportunities

Technology Improvements:
